I have never been to universal IOA and Studios but hear they have awesome rides, even better than Disney. Just a little feed back from people on which rides from universal you would like to see at disney?:cool1

Universal Board is that way----->

You will find better answers and avoid a Disney vs Universal debate (unless that's your intention).

It's not really a matter of taking a US ride and moving it to WDW. Something that is appropriately themed at one park would be out of place at the other. But if Disney added rides that had the quality and technology of, say:

  • Spiderman
  • Men In Black
  • Transformers
  • Harry Potter World
  • Mummy
  • Hulk

They would all be considered "must do", Top Ten rides at WDW.

Yeah, Disney is Disney and US is US. Totally different experiences.

That being said as a Six Flags, WDW, US, Dorney Park and Hershey regular, The Mummy is my single favorite attraction of all time.

I'd like to see Disney get a ride that has the same "wow" factor as the Spiderman and Transformer 3D rides. IMHO, the technology in those two type of rides is over and above anything Disney has to offer. It would be great if Epcot got one of those type of rides then there would be another E ticket to choose from finally!

Not that I would want an exact copy of a ride transplanted to WDW from Universal or anything, but there are some concepts and theming that could be imitated.

What WDW can and should imitate is the uncompromising, immersive theming of Hogsmeade (and I assume Diagon Alley). But I don't think it's really necessary to point that out to them ... I'm sure they already know that!

The other thing that WDW should try to correct is the impression (however unfair) that they're stagnating a bit in Orlando while Universal is going on a binge of new attractions (Harry Potter) and upgrades (Springfield USA). I wish that instead of blowing all that money on IT technology (for features and gadgets that do not interest me at all) Disney had instead spent it on new rides, especially in Animal Kingdom and DHS. And also spent a little bit more to upgrade or plus-up the attractions that have been "exactly the same" for far too long, such as the 3D movies, Soarin', Carousel of Progress, Dinosaur, and so on. And I DON'T mean on interactive computer-game time-wasters in the queue! I can play computer games at home, what I can't do at home is enjoy immersive theming and exciting moving rides.

I would not want WDW to imitate the "wow" factor of Universal rides ... while I enjoyed visiting Universal a lot, the majority of the rides and shows are IMHO too intense, noisy or scary for people under 13 or over 40 years old. Some examples: Mummy is a great coaster, but my 75 yo FiL lost his false teeth on the whiplash curve! (he found them on the seat afterward). Hulk coaster gives me a headache. Most of my family don't enjoy it. The Journey to Atlantis, T2 3D and Sinbad Stunt Shows are annoying loud. Anything with video (3D or not) and a lot of motion made me and DW feel ill (Spiderman and Simpsons).

My daughters agreed ... they were in their mid-teens when we visited Universal and they liked the parks, but they made it clear that overall they prefer Disney.

WDW is WDW and Universal is Universal. Different demographics. If you want to know more about Universal and their rides, go over to their forum further down the main page. Asking about putting Universal rides inside a WDW park is just :stir:

We've had those threads before ad nauseum. You can find them using the search function.

Hmm...the only one I can think of is Men in Black. Not the theme but everything else about the ride. MIB makes TSMM look so lame ( and Buzz for that matter)

I guess it all depends on how you interpret the OP. If the question posed were:
"Do you think WDW would benefit by adding rides that are as technologically sophisticated as certain US rides", then I think that would be fodder for fair debate here and not "pot stirring". The people who stir the pot are the ones who say that Universal is inferior and that Disney shouldn't take any cues from them at all. Of course, most of those people forget that many of the top rides at US were designed by former Disney Imagineers. When Universal hires away top talent, it should come as no surprise that things are happening there that Disney should take note of and perhaps even replicate.

I don't think I'd like to see Disney copy any of Universal's rides. I would like to see them emulate their innovative spirit. During the 90's, Disney made several innovative rides Indiana Jones/Dinosaur, Test Track, Tower of Terror in the thrill ride area but also tamed down those innovations for rides like Winnie the Pooh. At least in Florida, that seemed to stop in 2003 with Mission Space. Mission Space seems to have pushed the envelope a little too far for Disney's core audience. For me, at least, that's Disney World's last truely innovative large scale attraction.

After that, the Florida attractions have seemed to be build around proven technologies. Expedition Everest is a great coaster, but the only thing mildly innovative there was the giant Yeti (that doesn't work). Sum of all Thrills is based technology proven by Legoland.

That being said, Disney can build innovative attractions that are still Disney. Look at the new Ratatouille Ride at Disney Paris. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPH57rPrnJE . By all indications, it combines the motionless vehicles of a Poohs Hunny Hunt at Tokyo Disneyland, the large 3d screens of a Spiderman, and the immersive wrap around qualities of the domed screens seamlessly transitioning to live sets of a Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, all done Disney style in a ride with no height requirement.

That's right around the time when US started it's aggressive, pursuit of Disney talent. Coincidence?

I would like to see a few more rides that were more thrilling. For me, Disney has the overall theming down (aside form WWoHP) and far surpasses Universal. But the rides at Universal overall surpass those at Disney. Specifically, as mentioned, Mummy, the Forbidden Journey, MIB, Spiderman, or Simpsons. Or while the Popeye's Barges isn't the best ride, it's still better than KRR.

It would be nice to see that level of ride in a perfectly themed atmosphere. And it would be nice seeing rides that are a little more thrilling and more teenager-adult. I think the closest that gets is ToT and RnR but considering that my mom will still ride those rides, they're not too thrilling.
