Hi! Wondering how Gringotts & Mummy restraints measure up to restraints at WDW rides. Trying to plan one day at Universal Studios (no IOA) in September but want to know if Gringotts/Mummy seats and restraints are tighter than 7 Dwarfs Mine Train OR if there are similar comparisons at Walt Disney World that can be made. Also interested in knowing if there are any ride restraints at WDW that compare to Rip Ride Rockit/Forbidden Journey. Would also love insight to Race Through New York if you have it. Thank you!

Gringotts & Mummy are lap bars that you pull forward from in front of you.

Rip Ride Rocket is an arc shape that folds down across your waist from the left or right (an arc lap bar with the hinges on the side).
Forbidden Journey is in IoA but it is an over-the-shoulder restraint.

Race Through NY is a literal seatbelt IIRC, it's a theater style ride where the rows of seats tilt along with the action on the screen.

If you download the UO App, some of the rides show pics of the restraints, and I'm sure you could also find google pics.

Or is the question more in comparison of tightness/sizing?

Gringotts & Mummy are similar. I wouldn't say they are tighter than 7 dwarfs, there is a leg component also. The tiering of the seats at Gringotts cars means my feet don't touch the ground in the 3rd row, and legs feel a bit cramped in the front row.

If you scroll to the bottom of these pages, you can also see the forbidden journey and rip ride rockit seat photos -

Race through New York is just a seatbelt theater type seat (think star tours in Hollywood Studios).

My husband needs the larger sests in the 3rd row on Gringots and my feet don’t touch the ground either!

Question was more in comparison to tightness/sizing but appreciate the response!

Thank you -- I have heard that the back seats in Gringotts are maybe more forgiving/roomy than the front seats, this is very helpful to know

Thank you, was familiar with how RTNY is set up but have heard that the seats and rows are a bit smaller/tighter. If it's comparable to Star Tours, I think I should be fine.

This may help you find actual video of the seats, both Pammy Plus Parks and Theme Park Express on YouTube have size videos for the test seats at Universal, even if you aren’t looking for plus size/fit help you can still see the actual test seats and the restraints.

I don’t think Dis has made any test seat vloggs?

My family doesn’t have any problems with RTNY and we do have size issues with some other ride/seats so I don’t think it’s much different than Star Tours.

Last summer, I fit in the test seat at Gringotts, can't say about ride as my granddaughter bailed before riding. But I fit and rode forbidden journey, and Hagrids in motorcycle seat.

My most uncomfortable experience was on the Flight of the hippogriff made my legs in uncomfortable position and snug. That ride was very similar restrait wise to Seven Dwarves.

For reference, I'm 5'4", 220 lbs, more weight in hips/thighs. Size 18 or 20 pants depending, usually a 1X on top. Waist size right at 40"

I did watch some You Tube videos using plus size and Universal, there were some with good info about body positioning for best chance to fit.

We are going this summer with my grandkids, and I want to try Velocicoaster! Fingers crossed as it's just a lap bar restraint and my thighs might give me a problem

In a similar vein, there's a creator on Instagram called dreambigvikki who has done a lot of videos on Disney World ride restraints, and she's starting to work on Universal ones!

Just got back! Rode Velocitcoaster and Hulk no problem. Velocicoaster was intense, especially the second launch! Lots of air time with that Coaster. For Hulk they have seats with a two clip harness for larger people that are clearly marked, just ask ride attendant to make sure you go to those rows. I got the green in the test seat, but opted to do that one for comfort. No problems fitting on Gringotts or Mummy or Spiderman/Transformers, or Forbidden Journey

One ride I did but extremely uncomfortable was the Dudley Do Right flume ride- lap restraint hit me under ribs, and the way your legs sit straight out in front along the person seat in front is hard to maneuver in. Really hard to get out, to get your legs under you from that low seated position. Probably would not do it again.

You didn't mention Volcano Bay- most things no issue, they do make your entire party step on a scale, no numbers shown, as they have min and max weights for raft rides that hold 1 to four people. But unless your entire party is plus size, it shouldn't be an issue. Just may have to break up party. The water Coaster I fit in, but the position was uncomfortable, my hip flexor are tight and the position just wasn't great for me, but I'm glad I did it once, it was a fun ride. As with any water park- lots of stairs!
