Universal restaurant reservations?

Until now, I've only eaten at quick service restaurants in the 2 theme parks. However, I'd really like to start trying some of the full service restaurants. I have a few questions..
1) Are reservations essential in late April?
2) Are you only able to book reservations by phoning?
3) Any recommendations for a family of 4 (kids 10 and 13)?
4) Are there restaurant perks/incentives if you're staying in a Universal hotel?

The last week in April will probably be fine. However, you can easily make reservations at www.opentable.com

For staying onsite, you get early admission at Wizarding World as well as unlimited express access at all rides except Forbidden Journey, Rip Ride Rockit and Pteranadon Flyers. This is a huge bonus.

I recommend you go through the food sticky at the top of this forum. There are full menus as well as recommendations there.
