Being a frequent visitor to Universal Orlando and usually staying at RPR, it would be so much easier to combine room key, park tickets or AP's and Express passes in to 1 card. Certainly not asking for a cute little IR wrist band or anything elaborate, but just put it all on 1 card. This is especially a hassle when using Hogwarts express where everyone has to pull out the paper tickets and show line worker the tickets. Would be so much easier to just swipe the card with P2P access at a kiosk or such while entering the terminal. We do keep them all in a lanyard but when it rains or gets wet, those paper tickets are goners. The technology is certainly cost efficient for this to happen, so why is Uni so reluctant to use it? Thoughts?

We don't need them to be all in one.

Our room key, EP and our park tickets all fit in a lanyard. Our lanyards are plastic and our tickets have never gotten wet with rain or water rides.

We face the EP on one side and park tickets on the other. No hassle at all.

Universal and Loews are also 2 seperate entities.

I truly do not mind having everything separate. I seriously DISlike how WDW does it, with everything linked to one (faulty) bit of technology.

And especially since they would have to link two totally different companies, which would be likely even more faulty than WDW's system, it wouldn't be fun.

Why are you getting the paper tickets? Or do you think the credit card sized tickets are just paper? They are a paper Tyvek mix; Tyvek is the waterproof house cover stuff that goes under the siding. It keeps them relatively strong and relatively waterproof.

If you are getting the print-at-home, consider will call. Will Call allows you to get them at the kiosks, and it's the paper/tyvek combo. If you really want to do print at home (like if you're buying from UCT), print out several just in case.

We have APs now, and I hear we'll get plastic ones next time we get there, and they are the paper/tyvek. We started off with normal tikets sent directly from the resellers (we've used both maple leaf tickets and undercovertourist).

I have a Witz brand hard plastic, waterproof, lanyard case. I put the EP on one side to be scanned through the case. And I have the pass (but it used to be a ticket, before we all upgraded) on the other right next to our room key*. It's not an issue to simply take it out of that case to be scanned when we want to enter a park. It's easy as anything. Easy as putting on some toddler-style plastic bracelet, that's for sure.

And between those two cards I have a CC, ID, insurance card, and some cash.

*as we approach the gates I pull both of those out if it's early entry, scan the ticket then show the room key when needed, then I put them away with the ticket on the outside b/c I won't need the room key until we are back at the hotel but might need the ticket if we hop.

I still have the hard cc style for my AP and hope I don't have to switch to the new system at UO

To repeat what damo posted sometime back, Loews operates the hotels except hrh

This is a chain hotel company
Why would they change their room key / hotel system for a few hotels in Orlando

And like bumber posted above, there are two companies involved with UO
Parks/city walk and then the hotels

Disney's magic bands has its issues and I am one that has not had a favorable experience with it

Not a fan

Started doing Disney in 1974 so I know the progression they have had over past years

I'm good with AP, room key and ep photo ID card

My UO lanyard works fine for my cards

I also think having everything in one lanyard works just fine. My only wish is for the finger scan to work more than 1 time out of 5!

How odd!

It always works for us.

Are you a professional who uses hand sanitizer all the time? I've heard that that can mess with fingerprint whorls and cause that sort of problem.

I fold and handle cardboard boxes all day. They said that's probably it. My boss/wife suggested I wear cotton gloves. I said 'Why, so my bio-scan will work twice a year?' :)

We had the will call, credit card sized Uni tickets in a Uni lanyard we thought was sealed properly. They were destroyed after the water rides. Replacing them took a ridiculously long time and was a huge pain. So I definitely think they should be plastic. We won't keep them in the lanyard after that fiasco, so we do have to deal with digging them out at the train. I also wish they had one (non paper) card for everything!

Did you burn your finger prints off working on those fancy cars?

I second... 8th what everyone else has said. Lanyards save lives.... Okay hassle not lives. When I bring a new person into the park we go to the big store as soon as we get them and I force them to buy a lanyard. They trust me and at the end of the trip they have a souvenir to take home and they have all agreed with me so far. Get a lanyard. One for every person! They're $8.99.....? for the plain ole Universal ones. I think I paid 12.99 for my special potter one. Ticket facing out on one side, express pass facing out on the other. I keep my room key in my wallet because I don't like opening my ticket pouch but most everyone else I know keeps it in the pouch. If it's too big for the kids tie a knot. That's what my brother does for his kids. If you don't trust your kids consider getting extra pouches and attaching them all to your lanyard. Saw a guy do this in the spring and though BRILLIANT! I find the kids take pride in the lanyards and think they're special :)

Odd. I've had my paper annual pass for... 3 years? I'd give it another go and make sure it's sealed. I'm a little ocd before water rides making sure it's sealed. Also try putting it inside your shirt as it helps protect it a little. Or, just don't trust them, your choice. Or bring a zip lock bag and stick them in your pocket before you ride. IDK- just trying to help. I've yet to destroy my paper one and I am not a very neat and tidy person.

I agree with the lanyards. We had them for the first time on our 12 day stay at RPR last December and they worked great.

I however am a fan of the Magic Bands at WDW. They have worked great for us and make our stays there very hassle free.

the plastic passes help. I tie my kids lanyards up to make them shorter.

i kind of fear that i will be forced to go with the generic ap....
i have the old ap from 2002 or 2003.....
the ap's that have your picture on them.

if the system changes, my bar code might be a glitch

hope you don't tie your kids lanyards up to where they start to turn blue.

I usually don't but sometimes...nevermind. Lol

My son found that wearing it bandolier style, diagonal across his chest, helped. Because I wouldn't let him tie his, since the velcro quick release would save his life if he got it caught in something. (mean mom)

Witz brand.
Hard plastic.
Waterproof (unless you open it while you're literally in the pool, as I did once).
Lanyard "pouch".

Seriously. Best invention.

I got mine at REI but it's sold elsewhere. Heck, DS has a bigger one (would hold more cards, or a lip balm, etc) that he got from a Boardwalk Inn giftshop at WDW, and it's branded with WDW.

I see your point about Loews and Universal being separate entities. We did have paper tix last time stored in Lanyards and were always asked to pull tickets out of lanyards upon entry and Hogwarts express etc... Getting AP this time, hopefully plastic. Bluer: if they make the change I will allow it for you also, not just me:teeth:

We'll be upgrading our annual passes in 2 weeks-will we get the plastic one Universal was advertising awhile ago?
