DW and I are considering the possibility of spending one or maybe two nights at one of the hotels on the Universal complex. :)

Has anybody stayed there? and if so what are your opinions of the hotel(s) in which you have stayed?? Also where is the best place to get a good room rate??

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Alan. :bounce:

We stayed at the HRH in 2003 for 3 nights and plan on doing so again in 2005. Hotel is wonderful and FOTL access at IOA and US is priceless. We went on Shrek 4 times with no more than a 10 min wait whilst the standby line was 90 mins !

Rack rates are expensive but there are a number of ways to get a discount - entertainment card (from entertainment.com), AAA card (reciprocal agreement with our AA), annual pass rate and Loewes card (I think they own the Portofino and RP).

Not sure how you get the last one. If you fancy the HRH then you can also buy a Hard Rock All Access card at your nearest Hard Rock Cafe for about £20.

Discounts across the cards vary. We got a $230 room for $125 using the entertainment card. However, for 3 nights I would still seriously consider the rack rate just for the FOTL access !

Hi Alan,

I have seen www.hotelkingdom.com recommended on the Universal board (but haven't used them personally or been to a Universal Hotel for that matter!). There is loads of info over there.

Would you be thinking about a Friday and Saturday night stay by any chance? ;) !!!

We stayed at the Royal Pacific the first year it opened for 4 nights. We got an amazing rate of $159 for club level using the fan club card. It is was fantastic to stay on site and walk to the parks. However this year we are staying just out side the parks for 3 nights, the on site hotels seem very expensive at the moment.

We have booked to stay at HRH for 2 nights in July. We tried getting the ENT rate, AA Rate, Lowes Rate and AP rate only to be told that there were NO discounts available for the time of our stay as it is peak season. So, I suppose it really does depend on when you go!

We booked through Hotelkingdom.com and are paying $259 per night rack rate for our stay in a garden view room which is, to be honest, much more than I wanted to pay. But, you know, once you have your heart set on something...... :teeth:

The Lowes card is available from their website (wwwloews-first.com), you just sign up, and even if you don't get a discounted rate, you still get a welcome gift of either wine and nuts or cookies and milk.

I just can't wait for that FOTL access :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

We got a great rate at the Portifino Bay using the entertainment book. It's worth checking at different hotels for the entertainment rate as I believe they must limit the number of rooms at each hotel. Sometimes there is availability at Portifino when the other two has none and sometimes it's one of the others when Portifino has none.

We got one of these for $15 and it got us a room rate of $155 at the Portofino Bay Hotel for 15th August. Can't wait!!

Thank you all for the information :) .

It's certainly given me something to think about seriously now.
