Hi All, relative newbie, last time I used boards was in 2004 when we took daughters 9 and 7 to Orlando, they are now 17 and 15 and so I am wondering if the Halloween Horror Nights will be something teens would like. Don't know much about it but wondering if its worth it in terms of money and the attractions.

I went to HHN in 2003 when I was 15 (also with 2 16 year old friends) and absolutely loved it! Still rave about it to this day and hoping I can take boyfriend for the first time when we go next year.

Hi we last went in 2002 during our honeymoon but haven't managed to make it back due to having young kiddies.
We remember it as being brilliant and def money well spent. It's a little scary when you first go in as the lights are dimmed right down, you go through a body scanner for concealed weapons and there's loads of dry ice effects.
There were about 7 different horror houses that I went between screaming and laughing really hard. After 3 I couldn't take any more as everything hurt from screaming so loudly! I was chased by an actor with a chain saw at one point.
The water rides had the water turned up high so we were dripping wet. There was a street that had a foam party too.
It really was amazing but if your kids are a little nervous it might be a bit much.
It was a long time ago so has probably changed a lot but we remember it as being such a good night. Have fun xx

I would LOVE to do this but my kids ar too young and even though I'm staying in HRH for a night I don't think I'd dare go on my own while oh has the kids! Lol

Me and DH went for our 1st wedding anniversary in 2006, it is an amazing evening and well worth the money - all of the haunted houses are walk throughs and the "actors" are allowed to touch you, in a "made you jump" type of way. if you go, and they still do it, get a frequent fear pass where you can go on more than one night, in case it rains or you want to fit it all in, as you won't do it all in one night. Don't go on a weekend night as all the locals go and it was manic. Don't know if they still do this, but when we went they sold beer which i didn't agree with as lots of people drinking, and there were a couple of messy sights, but that was on the weekend, weeknights was much better. It is very intense though and very scarey. You just don't know wot will be around the next corner, I did see a young (probably about 20yrs old) girl crying. but you have to take it as it is, people dressed up, its not real :lmao:. its totally focused on horror films and the characters take it very seriously. but it is loads of fun and i screamed and laughed a lot too, we also did it in 1995 and 2003.....we now have a little one so prob won't go again for many years and i'm not sure if my nerves will take it again :rotfl2: ....if your kids love the horror films then they will love it.

yes they would love it.loved it when we went years ago.Scary but fun as well.

Each year the "theme" changes and it's completely different houses. In 2003 I had Freddy Krueger chasing me at one point! As I was a teen I was trying to act all cool but ended up making my dad go in front all the time, lol. It's such a good laugh though and we went through some of the houses twice and had some "banter" with the actors the second time round (less scared then ;))!

Lucky you getting to go-its going to be a few years before we return as the kids are only 6 & 8 now. Have a brilliant time and remember your pelvic floor when they scare you to death and you scream :rotfl2: xx

Many thanks to you all. We are probably going to have to go on a weekend as we land in Orlando on Friday 26th and if I've done my homework the only nights we can go is Saturday 27th, Sunday 28th or Wednesday 31st. Which are all going to be very very busy I'm sure. So I really need to talk to my girls to see how they feel about going. My oldest loves 'Scream' films but not so sure about my 15 year old. But thank you for your comments.

If you are going on one of the "peak nights" then I would highly recommend buying express passes otherwise you may struggle to get round many of the houses!! The express passes aren't yet available on universals website but should be very soon!

We went 2009,2010 and are going this October and we love it, they've just started announcing the house times now, so far they have "the Walking Dead" lie the tv series and "Silent hill" based on the computer game

In my experience, Halloween night will be the slowest of the three days you mentioned. Saturdays are always packed but the last Sunday of the event last year was just as bad. Purchase Express passes to make sure you can do everything and take advantage of Stay & Scream if you can. It will save you lots of time.

I'm not into The Walking Dead at all...in fact zombies do nothing for me. I watched Silent Hill this past weekend and thought it was strange but could see the game's influence. I'm curious to see what Universal does with it.

OMG! My hubby is gonna be sooooo jealous of you guys going as he love "the Walking Dead" and our DD is far too young to go to this yet...:goodvibes

We were planning on staying at a Universal Hotel - probably Portofino - for three nights from 28th October, after 7 nights at Disney.

Our dd is only 8, so wouldn't appreciate anything like this. Does it mean the parks will shut earlier? I haven't done any research on Universal or IOA, so have no idea whether they open late, have any shows etc. Does anyone know if we are likely to be affected?

Thanks

I think Studios will shut at 6 on HHN evenings, which isn't much if any earlier than normal for this time of the year.

Islands of adventure opening hours will be unaffected

I would love to do this but my kids will be 5, 8 and 12 when we go. I have vowed to go back one day and do it.:thumbsup2

We've been a few times but not going this year as we think the ticket
prices are too expensive.

I wouldmdef recommend getting the e press pass if you go on a peak night. We,love Friday and Saturday nights as the atmosphere is excellent.

On nights when HHN is staged the Studios will close at 5pm for set up. Other nights is regular closing at 6pm...IOA is unaffected closing at 7pm.

Thank you, glad we are not going to miss out!!!

Now I need to find out more about these two parks, the rides suitable for a just 8 year old and the maps to get orientated!!!

Start by looking at the website to get an idea of where everything is located. Then check YouTube for ride videos for the attractions you are interested in riding. Also check our Universal section for trip reports.
