Universal & Disney Trip -- Should I rent for entire stay?

We are going to HRH for 8/25 and switching to WL on 8/29 - 9/3. We did a similar trip two years ago, and found that while we like having our own transportation at Disney, we never used the car while we were at Universal. In fact, we were charged a daily parking fee at the Universal hotel, so it costs us quite a bit for a rental car we did not use for days. I need to make my rental car reservations now, but I am seriously thinking of using a car service to take us to the HRH, and then picking up a rental on 8/25 for the remainder of the stay. Has anyone done anything like this? Are their rental locations near Universal or Disney? There are five of us. If we are not going to save a good amount, I know it is not worth it. But 4 extra days of rental car costs (plus parking) may add up. Thanks for any input.

There are actually rental loacations at both Disney and Universal. I know for sure that Disney has 2 locations of National/Alamo at the Car Care Center and the Dolphin. There is a Dollar in the Holiday Inn at DTD. Universal has it in the hotels. I want to say it was Hertz in the Hard Rock and Royal Pacific. It would be a one-way rental unless you went back to the airport to get the car, but that is another $40 that you would be spending. Really, I would research the 3 locations and see which can give you the best rate and go with that.

It costs about $30 to transport from Universal to Disney by taxi, so that can figure into your calculations for total savings.

We looked into this also and we found that Double Tree Suites at DTD also has a Budget Rental. We're doing the opposite, we're renting at the airport, keeping it during our stay at RPR, then driving ourselves to ASMo and returning it at Double Tree. We're having a car service take us back to the airport. We have Amex Rewards to pay for the rental and the airport is the ONLY place that has a 15 passenger van and only have to pay for 1-way car service for $100, we're splitting the cost b/w 11 so its not that expensive.
