Universal birthday options?

From the website-

The all-inclusive packages include park admission to either Universal Studios® or Islands of Adventure and a special birthday party complete with cake, ice cream, decorations and more.

Extras such as meals and character "meet and greets" are also available.

Parties start at $581 plus tax for up to 16 people. Birthday reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance of the party date.

Well, it's just going to be us. (me, DH, and three children...1y/o, 9y/o (who will be 10) and our 16y/o)

We aren't planning a bday party there, though that was be so much FUN! What can they do on a *much* smaller scale?

For example, do they give away bday buttons...things like that?

Universal doesn't have birthday buttons or really anything special. Some of the restaurants will give the birthday boy/girl a cupcake or something with the meal but not all of the restaurants.

They do sell a birthday cake hat complete with candles but I haven't noticed that anyone has gotten any special treatment for wearing one. Disney makes a big deal for birthdays but Universal, unfortunately does not.

When we stayed at RPR, they sent a cake to the room on check-in night, plus had a cake at the Islands restaurant when we had dinner and had characters there. I don't know if the characters were there for my son's birthday, but they paid very special attention to him. These amenities might not be standard, but they were very nice touches.

That's great to know. I didn't know that they did anything special. I'm glad to see they do.

If my memory is correct (which is not something to take bets on :rotfl2: )... I believe they asked me if anyone was celebrating a birthday or special occasion when I made ressies for the spiderman breakfast - you might call and see if they do anything special there.

We went for my son's 9th birthday, stopping after a half day in US on our way to IOA, and they brought him a huge ice cream sundae (free) and had him stand on the bar while they announced to the entire restaurant that it was his b-day and had everyone yell "Happy Birthday!". He was a little embarassed, but I'll tell ya, what a kid'll do for some free ice cream... :rotfl:
