Universal Adventures of Dreams AND Magic, and an expanding World!

Hey Jen! I just happened to find your PTR because I was perusing the trip report thread and saw your name as the person who started the thread.

I have a possible explanation for the whole husband getting upset over something he's known about for months issue....

I sometimes wonder, particularly for those of us married to dairy farmers who tend to work themselves to death....if it's partly that DH is envious because we don't work ourselves into the ground. We take time for enjoyment and taking care of ourselves. At least I think my DH is a bit jealous because I have so many friends and go do things while he works all the time. Partly it's his job, but partly it's his choice. And I've made peace with the fact that I need different things than he does. I NEED to get away from the stuff I do every single day and be with my friends and go to Disney and have fun. A few weeks ago we had a discussion about him going to visit his son in TX (who is asking why we never come to see him) and DH stated, "He knows how I am and that I hate to travel so if he wants to see me, he knows where I am." WOW. That was an eye-opener for me. It's so not how I was raised or how my family is. Over 20 people from my family flew from IL to CA to see me graduate!

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and let you know I found you! :)

You hit the nail on the head. He works very hard...all day long pretty much. He grew up with that job and continued on by choice. Out of 6 kids, only 2 remained running the farm.

And he does think I should be working myself to death too....but he also likes me home..hard to do both. I work very hard at my current job. there are days I put hours and hours into work for a client, but I can do it at home and from my computer. He thinks I am just having fun playing.
He has some friends come over usually twice a week and they drink a beer or 2 out in the barn and do the guy gossip thing...which by the way, is way worse than what any woman could even think of...but he NEVER leaves to go to anyone elses place. Everyone needs to come to him. One of his brothers down the road had a party last night and I told him to go. He could ride the gator there and be there in 3 minutes. He said no...and I urged him over and over, but he didn't leave the comfort zone.

I do think these dairy farmers have a whole different way of thinking. :rotfl:

I have been a busy bee lately. I am going to try and get that last Mickey head sewn into the pillowcase today so I can start to tye die those.

It's not hard...but for some reason I just put it off. It's just not "fun".

I had lunch with several of my family members who will be cruising with us in Nov. yesterday. It was a fun lunch, but had to com home and make some more changes for them. Wanted different excursions or time. I think we have it all settled now. I just need to update paperwork on that now, which isn't hard.

After lucnh I had some time to kill. Claire was at a party with some friends, so I stopped at Walmart to get ink for my printer...um I forgot to get the ink in the end. LOL
I found several clearance racks of clothes. I decided to look for a swim suite cover up. I ended up finding one for $5. It's cute. The downside is that it is one size smaller than I wanted, and even though I searched all over, that was the only dang one I could find, so I still go it. It fits, but I would be happier with a little more flow room around the rear. But since it's just a cover up, it should be ok.
I did however find several pairs of cute shorts. I am stil lheavier than I should be, and only have a few decent pair of shorts. I have sworn off buying clothes for myself till I can lose some more weight. Thats not working out well for me. LOL I went ahead a bought 3 more pairs. They fit decently, though nothing ever fits right, becasue I have a thinner waste than the rest of me, and a bigger than normal rear and thighs. Everything seems to be made for the complete opposite body type. With a belt though, these were good and not skin tight in the rear and thighs.
They are the longer style, so refreshing to find when the style is short shorts...which are not friendly to people with large thighs and even better, they don't taper down, they are wide legged the whole length.
They were $11 each in cleanrance. Not the best "walmart" clearance price, but still not bad at all. Last summer I got a coupl of pairs of decent shorts at kohls and dillards on clearance too, so between all of those, I won't look like a total bum on the ship.

I finally made a pair of flip flops for Claire for that cute skirt outfit that I got...the one that took forever to arrive. Here it is , if you don't remember.

peterpandress2.jpg

Here are the flip flops. She really likes them, but I am not letting her wear them till the trip. She can be a bit rough on flip flops. I do remember to bring along glue. She seems to walk hard...and they are cheap flip flips and she pulls the thing between the toe out. I have found a pretty good glue that works to glue them back in and still be functioning.

blueflipflops.jpg

Also a few weeks back (probably over a month), I got a notice from my friend Jeanne that a certain facebook seller was listing some really cute things for pretty cheap. I ended up getting this pink dress with anchors for Claire. I think it only cost like $15...what a bargain.

anchordress.jpg

She really likes this one too, and I am kicking myself now for not ordering one for my 2 nieces as well.

I also had place a vista print order recently. I had bought a deal on groupon a while back for $70 worth of Vista print for $17. I found this graphic on our Sept. cruise meet forum. I had one made for both Lisa and I. I am not sure how she will feel about wearing matching shirts, I guess we'll find out soon enough. LOL

And I decided that for pirate night, I wanted to join in the fun, but I KNOW there is no way Lisa would go all out, so I made these t-shirts as well.

skullminni.jpg

I think they are cute. I have 2 pairs of capris I could wear it with. Depending on how much weight I lose prior, but at the rate I am going, I think the one pair wil lbe a bit too tight still to wear on this cruise.

I think you and your friend are right about the "working to the bone" mentality of some people. I know my InLaws had never really taken vacations until the last few years and that is because they basically saw all of their kids taking them. But for the longest time they liked to be the Martyr and point out how MUCH and how HARD they work. Well… nobody is MAKING them work that hard and that much. They have corporate jobs with vacation time given every year. TAKE IT! Us "kids" stopped listening to them whine about the fact that they never went anywhere.

My husband's FIRST vacation was our honeymoon! They just never took time off for anything other than family stuff and couldn't understand why people would travel. Then they saw all of us enjoying ourselves and traveling. Now, they get it and have even mentioned wanting to go to DisneyWorld with us… And if THAT happens then we will have to stay at different resorts, because I don't think I could handle them for a week right next door to me! :rotfl:

I doubt that Skip is going to change much, but he doesn't need to punish you for his inability to get away and enjoy himself.

Loved Claires outfit and flip flops also all your other purchases !!But where are the modelled co\lothes you bought?????:confused3:lmao:

Love the shirts! Those are too cute! The flip flops match perfectly too! I made a pair for myself for a cruise I was on in June and they were kinda rough on my feet so I got some felt and glued it on the bottom of the ribbon and around the thong part and they actually ended up being my most comfortable shoes! Not sure if Claire has complained about the roughness of the ribbon at all.

I think we were typing at the same time and I just noticed your update! Cute shirts!!! I need to go get some shorts and capri's for our trip. I can't remember the last time I bought a pair of shorts and the ones I have are at LEAST older than Cortlyn. :rolleyes1 I should run over to our Walmart and see what they have over there!

Cute stuff! LOVE the cruise shirt. You didn't have much time to plan, but I love that you did!

And thanks for reminding me I need to go buy more shorts. Maybe I can catch some on clearance before they all disappear for fall. I did some looking earlier but got frustrated. I have the same problem. I need bigger through the hips, so they're all too big in the waist. I used to get the bigger size and put a tuck in the waistband, but now that they all have lower waists, it's harder and harder to make them work.

And now my big issue is the pockets. I love to put my phone in my pocket. But for some reason all the pockets are really shallow and I feel like it would fall out when I sit down. I guess I'm just too picky. Which is why I wear the same shorts for years and years and years.........

Your big cruise is getting so close! I get crazy when trips are this close I can't think of anything else. Claire's outfits are so cute and so are the T-shirts you had made.

My Dad was the same way. he didn't take many with his family either. It must be a farmer thing.
And I remember him griping about the ones we took as a kid, though he always had a good time.
Only over the last few years has he really enjoyed and even looked forward to going. Like last year when I took my Mom on the cruise and he insisted coming along too. He couldn't do the cruise, but he stayed at his sisters and then met up with us for the rest of the trip. He is excited about our cruise in Nov. though he is griping about missing work time (He is a landscaper type guy) while we do a few days at WDW. We told him he can fly home by himself...but he doesn't know how to do that. LOL
Plus god forbid he go home by himself. No one will be around to take care of him.

I was happy to find a few things that sort of fit OK..and not pay an arm and a leg for. I have some really cute shorts that I haven't worn since before Claire was born...that are like 5 sizes smaller!!!!!

These have a higher waste (yep I'm a geek), so I like that. But they do seem to have shallow pockets, so I'll have to be careful what I put in them.

I still have a lot to do, but I also am wanting it to hurry up and get here too. Less than a month now!!

I'm thinking of getting a new card for my DSLR too, how much did you spend on your 8gb's? I'm debating on getting a couple of 4gb so I can break up my days easier.

I really like your skull t-shirt, very cute! I think the matchy shirts are awesome, she has to wear proudly!:thumbsup2

Good job on the flip flops, they match perfectly!

I hope you feel like doing something "fun". Hopefully your cruise will help you find your fun.

I need to go get some shorts too. and shoes, and shirts. Maybe I should walk much faster and not eat for 2 months. I have cute stuff that is hiding in the back of my drawers that don't fit either.:sad2:

This is what i got. Off of amazon

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000W05O5O/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00

They are very nicely priced ans super saver shipping if you buy $25 worth of eligible stuff.

Edit ...Just had a thought...You might use SD cards for your SLR.

I got my 4 G for about $10, so this was a better deal. But I like to brak things up too. Thats one reason I haven't gone to bigger ones. I know I could possibly lose a card. :rolleyes1

How did you make the skeleton shirt? That is so cute!

I got the design off of one of the Dis threads. I think the magnet one on the cruise forum. And then I uploaded it to vista print and had it put on a tee.
I am happy with it. If you ever want the design, just pm me on facebook and give me your email and I'll send it to you.

I'll have to check that out. My camera takes Compact Flash cards. The only downside is they don't go into my laptop, I have to plug my camera in w/ a USB cord. The new version of my DSLR uses a SD. I'm putting out secret vibes in the air for the new camera. We'll see.

Don't say that!:scared1: No lost cards this time!

Ok, you're old fashion like me then. :lmao: I don't mind the CF's except that they have the pins and that is what broke on my old camera "making" me get the 50D.
I forget which one you have now? I used to have the Rebel XTi. I really liked that camera too, but it would cost $250 to fix the pin that broke. I always say some day I will. :rotfl: But I am so used to my 50D now, that the rebel would feel super small.

I have an SD on my laptop too. And I think both on my desktop, but I used the cord that came with the camera still as well.

Yup! Who need all those new fangled things :rolleyes1 .......... I may not need them but I do want them :lmao:

My DSLR is a sony a100, w/ the 75-300mm telephoto zoom lens.

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-10-2MP-Digital-18-70mm-f3-5-5-6/dp/B000DZH60O

These are the cards I use,
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Extreme-CompactFlash-Memory-SDCFX3-004G-A31/dp/B0008D76L0

but what I would LOVE to have is this, it uses SD cards

John said if I could sell my DLSR then I could go ahead a get the new one, but I don't even know how to go about that to get the best deal for me.

Oh yeah...I remember now...I actually really thought hard about getting that camera, but it was new out then and my photo friends told me not to since Sony was so new to slr's...but it actually is a minolta, and I kind of wished I had gotten it. but I do like Canons too. And now with lenses i will stick with Canon. I keep looking at a new lens...but really don't need it...but it would be nice. It's a 10mm - 20 mm.

I'm glad things are sort of smoothing out for you and Skip! I like all the new clothes! Super cute!

Have you checked out SW recently? That is who you booked your one set of flights with, right? They've had a fare drop that started Friday night. I'd been monitoring our flights out of CMH to MCO for our March trip, and everything was in the $146-$151 range, including Friday at lunch.

Well when I went on to actually book the tickets Friday night before they went up again, prices had dropped to $130 each way! We ended up getting ours for $260 each round trip! I about fell off my chair, as it seems MCO is always excluded from their fare sales, especially getting close to spring break season!

Fingers crossed for at least a few bucks back to save for next year's trips!

I have been checking them off and on. My flight down is $113, and so far nothing lower has been showing up, and my flight back is $103...again, nothing lower. I sure wish it would.
I also been checking the Houston and I think I lucked out on that flight because it's been pretty dang high now.
