Oh man has it been a while since I last posted here! We're thinking about a trip this December with my DM and DSF. My DM is an amputee and has been in a wheelchair of late. She's insistant that she'll be walking by then but I'm not going to count on that.

I have questions about DVC and universal access/HA rooms. Is there some way to get a 2 bdrm where only the studio portion is HA or is the whole thing going to be HA? I know that HA rooms have a roll-in shower and grab bars - what else? Anything different in a 1 bdrm, like the kitchen?

Anyone have pictures?

Thanks!

Yes, the kitchens have lower counter and some stoves are easier to reach. There is limited storage/cupboard space to allow for wheelchair turning radius. As far as I know, it is not possible to get a unit that is split as far as being accessible, it is all or nothing...except for two story Grand Villas, most have no wheelchair access to the 2nd floor.

An option would be to see whether there is a HA studio next to or near a regular 1 bedroom. A few more points than a 2 bedroom but something to consider.

I was wondering that same thing. Is there an HA studio next to a non-HA 1bdrm? Should I call MS to find out or SSR directly?

The whole unit would be HA. If you could get a HA studio that was in the same building with a non-handicapped 1 bedroom, that would be the way to do it, but they would not be connecting.
