United FLight Change Question

Before I call and sit on hold, thought I would ask here first for a quick answer. Our departure flight in April changes from 7:40 PM back to 4:20PM, pretty big difference and will alter pur plans for our last day of the trip. It looks like they dropped the late flight.

If I call United, would I be able to change the reservation to a flight for the next day at no charge since it's their schedule change?

This is a big time change. UA will change your flight at no charge if you can find something which works for you.

Turns out or original flight was 7:40PM and was the last flight of the day. We booked that because we wanted the full day. That flight was discontinued. They moved us to a 5PM flight.

I called and first agent said no problem and no charge. I had to check with travel companions and call back. Called back 20 minutes later and second agent said no way, unless we wanted to pay extra. Hung up, called back and third agent check with supervisor and said no problem.

Flight changed to 10AM the next day. A little work, but worth it in the end!

Thanks for posting your experience! I am debating whether to book my year end one way flight now on united as one of the flight's fare has dropped. My alternative is to wait until Southwest releases flights for that time, which wont't happen until May at the earliest. (I will definitely book Southwest for the other one way since I will have just enough Rapid Reward points to cover the one way flights.). But a big concern of mine was reading about the legacy airline's frequent schedule changes when there is a lot of time between purchase date and flight date. And this flight that I am looking at is already later than I would truly prefer (because of the kids) but still doable. And the fare is really good. I would just hate to buy now because of the savings and end up getting moves to an even later flight! But reading folks' experiencing about getting the flights switched has alleviated some of the worry. So thanks again!
