Been watching the news reports about United Airlines and the bankruptcy.........
We are booked to fly with them next summer.......should we be worried??
Anyone else booked with them??
Would they transfer us to another airline if needed??

At the moment you don't really need to worry. They have filed for Chapter 11 which is not actually bankruptcy. It the US companies can file for Chapter 11 to get their creditors to back off and let them sort out their finances. It is not particularly unusual and many companies trade like this for some time. Obviously its not a good thing but it shouldn't affect their customers for the time being.

We are flying with US airways in Feb and they filed Chapter 11 last June. Like you, we were concerned so looked into it. Basically they can stay in Chapter 11 for up to 2 years - it is a protection against litigation by their creditors and so gives the company some 'breathing space' to sort out their finances. We were assured by US that they would be operating normally in the meantime and so far have done just that.

Not a definate assurance that everything will be OK but it does seem that these companies are doing the decent thing and admitting a problem in time for it to be sorted out - unlike other airlines who just go 'bump' without any warning or compensation.

I don't think you have a great deal to worry about but you may want to keep a check on their website and in the financial press just in case.
