Unique Baby Girls names??

I was driving in my car one day to work and heard them announce that Teri Hatcher had a baby girl named Emerson Rose. I fell in love with that name and knew that if i ever had a girl her name would be Emerson. Well i got my wish and DD6 is named Emerson Claire. We call her Emme. We were actually discussing tonight how nice it is that no one else in her school has that name. It is becoming more popular though.
For my second DD, DH chose Allison. Not exactly my preference, but can't help but love my Alli! I really wanted Harlyn and to call her Harly for short. If there is ever a next time i will definately make sure that i get my way.

We named our DD Braelynn Mara. Her first name came from the fact that I was convinced that I was having a boy and I wanted to name a boy Brady and so the Brae came from that, Lynn is my middle name so I put the two together to get Braelynn. Her middle name is combo of her two great grandmothers, Mary and Myra. My husband did the middle name. We have never heard of another Braelynn so far.

I hated my name growing up(Wendy) and hated my midle name even more(Jordon) I've grown to like it.
When naming my kids I guess I was more careful with my first then my second.
Brett(Only hear this name in sports)
Ashley (Too many. there's 3 on her cheerleading squad :cheer2: and probably 30 in her school)
Other names in the family...
Katie
Joshua
Nicole
Jordan
Brendan
Mark & Matthew (Twins)
Melissa
Kimberly

The name Jasmine seems to be a popular name lately around here.
:flower1:

I'm another that hated my name growing up (Charity, can you imagine how many time I heard "money for Charity") but I like having an unusual name now.

I wanted to name my daughter Ryleigh but husband hated it... we named her Rayne (Rain) Renee, and I love it. we were going to name her Celeste Lynn but Rayne won out. I like the name Celeste, its an old name and isn't very popular anymore.

I also know a few people with differnt names:

Peyton Jo..my neice, she has strawberry blonde, curly hair ( she is so cute lol)
Peaches Diane ( a friend of ours) her sisters are Goldie and Evie...and I thought my name was bad
Jade Fyre (middle name is strange) her sister is Harley Christine which isn't too bad
TaeJanae Dominique Lashae * Yep thats her whole name ..minus last name*

My son went to school with brothers named Blayze and Stone
we also know a boy named Chayne (shane)

I'm sure there are more strange ones out there that I am familiar with but I'm drawing blanks right now.

Hi, Charity! I love the name Peyton for a girl. I considered naming one of my girls Peyton Noel, but I found out that it is traditionally a boys name and I decided that I'd rather not further that trend where people co-opt boys names for girls names. It is common enough to be no big deal for the girls, but I've known a few boys who were right on the wrong edge of thier name becoming a girls name. Because the majority then seem to quit using those names for boys anymore once they start becoming popular for girls. And that bugged those boys so much (read "caused them so much grief") that I decided to honor their wishes and not do it. Now I am secretly glad to hear of a girl with the name Peyton. Sshhh...Don't tell my friends! :p

Well my sister got it from a television show called "One Tree Hill" and there was a girl on there named Peyton. I always think the football player Petyon Manning but to each their own.

I think girl's with " traditionally boys names aren't nearly as bad as guys wuth traditionally girl's names. like Kim or Stacy or even Kelly ( I know Men with each of those names)

Yeah, I agree that it never sounds too bad for a girl. In fact I sometimes really like it. I guess almost everyone agrees with us both on thinking that it seems really bad when it is the other way around.

I also knew a guy named Stacy who was one of the ones with a big gripe about the whole situation. Later when I got myself a name book that had the scholarly scoop on the history of the names, I found out he was right, it did used to be a man's name. Poor guy, so much grief from other kids, just for having a family name. And then I went and did the same kind of thing to my son. But it is just his middle name and it did come down through a whole lot of generations of his dad's family. So hopefully he can cope and not mind it too much. And if he can't I can play the innocent and honestly claim that it was very important to his dad that he have that name. And at least it is not Stacy!

My daughter's name is Claudia. (No, it's not Minnie Mouse like my sign name indicates. LOL!) I LOVE her name, and she hardly ever meets another Claudia. Interestingly enough, though, we met another Claudia about her age on the train to Rafiki's Planet Watch! :cool1:

I agree....other now girls names that are really boys names....

Kerry
Morgan
Tracy
Jamie

Also - I have seen a rash of girls popping up named Michael.

Actually Michal is a girl's name in the Bible - King David's wife - spelled differently, but pronounced the same as Michael.

We have an Avery Violet. Avery was not heard of when we had her 10 1/2 years ago -but we just met a younger Avery this weekend.

When I was pregnant for my daughter, I was sure I would have another boy!! So all I had were boy names picked out... We were going to name her Logan Paul if she was a boy. (Paul is her Dad's middle name. Our son's middle name is Richard, which is their Dad's first name). We figured that way both boys would be named after Dad. As it turned out, she was a girl. YEAH!! We love the name Logan so much that we ended up naming her Logan Taylor. I've had people say that Logan for a girl is nice.... we agree!! Although most of the time we call her Logie! :thumbsup2 One other name I heard after I had her, which I loved, was Delaney. I thought that was a unique and pretty name for a girl. Good luck on the name search.... :cheer2:

My brother in law is Stacy and my kids dad is a Rene and cousin Jordan is also a boy. Great grandma was Jesse Josephine. There are some names that go either way.

I always liked long names that can be shortened, so my DD is Cassandra but her friends call her Cassie.

If she had a sister she would have been Caroline "Carly" for short. (yes I'm a GH fan)

We also considered Katrina, or Katja. Cat for short.

I love the name Gabrielle but HATE Gabby though so that was out of the question.

My grandmothers were Inez and Ceceila, they would be very unusual now :rotfl2: .

hi-jumping in from the uk board here!!
we have named all our 3 with the thought of learning to write your own name as i`m an elizabeth which was according to my mother took me forever to learn to write all ours are short names!i have a dd -mary(louise) and 2 ds`s ezra(jeremy) and oscar(seth) which are all unusual in the uk ,mary more common now but theres only 2 others in her school, oscar only 1 other and never heard of another ezra-is it more popular in the u.s? we got it from a supercross rider (ezra lusk)-note the theme going on with the boys and supercross/motox ..ezra,jeremy,seth!! my daughter has some friends called
calma(pronounced karma)
lily-eve
evangeline
betty
personally i always wanted to call a girl doris but my dh was having none of it!!

I love lots of the names posted on this thread! I have 2 girls - Alyssa AnnMarie and Kathryn Elizabeth. If I ever have another girl, I would probably pick Delaney, Courtney, or Avery.

My name is very common so decided to give my DD something nicer. Her name is Ariane. I loved the name Ariel, but it was very popular when I was pregnant because of TLM, so came up with something close. I actually got the spelling from a perfume that Avon used to sell. I thought it looked nice and my DD is definitely her name :thumbsup2

My daughter's name is Lochlyn Blue. We too wanted something unique, but not too odd. I don't imagine we'll encounter many other Lochlyns throughout her life!

I named my daughters:

Siena Rochelle

Alexandria Elizabeth. We call her Lexy.

I'm pregnant with a girl again and I think she will be Eden Saqqara.

I don't know any other Siena's Lexy's or Eden's but I don't think they are too weird.

I know a little girl named Sierra Cheyenne, after her Dad's two favorite pick-up truck brands! Still a pretty name.

I have all boys. We never decided on a girl name...I always loved the name Leah, but we could never find a middle name. I liked Leah Alane, but DH wasn't crazy about it.

I also like Margot or Margeaux, depending on how bold you are.

I love Maggie too, but wouldn't want that as an official name.

I'm done naming babies...hopefully...but I love to read them!
Katy :sunny:
