Unfortunately, I have a VISION...of the number one complaint when ME starts in May

I gave my airline info a couple of days ago when I paid my deposit on my reservation - but when she asked "where will the flight be coming from" I told her Memphis even though we originate out of S.A. because we transfer in Memphis. Was this incorrect? I told the CM this, but she didn't act like it was of any importance.

Duds
they couldn't do it for international, cuz you have to go through
customs first, with all your luggage for screening :)

Why is this so hard to understand?

What I think is going to be the number one complaint is the folks who instead of going to the bus stood at the carousel waiting and waiting for luggage that is already at Disney! LOL!

Or people won't affix their the special luggage tags to their bags, and Disney won't transport them (becuase Disney won't know they are supposed to).

ME is a great idea, but judging by the questions on this and other Boards, Disney is explaining it poorly to its customers. It's a simple concept (as some of the poster's have explained), but Disney is screwing it up already.

OK- I don't want to be difficult--- but...

What if your luggage gets lost by the airlines. How will you know this- until you get to the resort, and have no bags? :confused3

This is the only downfall of ME and luggage transfer. Try explaining to the airline baggage rep in a call center that your bags didn't arrive in your Disney hotel room automatically.....

Luckily, I believe most bags are bar code scanned, so that most airlines can tell if they arrived at their destination OK (and then you know better on who to blame)

Sorry, but I think you're wrong. Most of us completely understand how DME is going to work. It really is pretty simple and straightforward. It would seem that there could be some CM's that aren't giving the correct advice and that is the area that Disney seems to need improvement. But, there is always some Disney CM giving out incorrect info on one subject or another. I would go to the WDW website, print out the info on DME, have it in hand when you talk to CRO and if they tell you differently than what the web-site has..question them on it.

However, if Disney CM's are giving out incorrect info, most people will not know the difference. Only a very small % of Disney guests frequent these boards (good thing too, don't want everyone to know the "good" hints).

While you may check info on the internet, and query CRO on it, you're probably the exception, and not the rule (though if you have the info from Disney's website, why would you need to query CRO?).

Plus, even on this Board (and this thread !!!) there have been a lot of confused people. Disney has taken a great, simple, concept, and made it difficult to understand (even by their own staff).

It would have been easier if they have broken ME up into two parts, with two different names:

1) Magical Express -- Transportation to and from MCO

2) Resort Check In -- outgoing luggage/boarding pass printing for customers of participating airlines.

Magical Express *is* available to international visitors. It doesn't matter where your flight originates, it just matters that you fly into MCO. They facilitate all Disney resort guests including those who need to go through customs and immigration.

Some excerpts below. Full details at http://www.wdisneyw.co.uk/magexfaq.html

What is Disney’s Magical Express service?
Disney’s Magical Express is a complimentary new airport transportation and luggage delivery service available to all Disney Resort Guests that offers hassle free transportation between Orlando International Airport and the Walt Disney World Resort. The magical part of this service is that Guests do not have to claim their luggage when they arrive at the airport...Disney’s Magical Express claims the luggage on their behalf and delivers it to their Resort room.
The inbound portion of the service (into Orlando International Airport) is available for all Disney resort guests, regardless of the airline they’ve selected - domestic and international flights.

Do international Guests have to claim luggage?
If Orlando is the Guest's first port of entry into the United States then the Guest claims their luggage after debarking the plane (luggage is not transferred to Baggage Claim at this point). The Guest proceeds through the Customs process with their luggage. When complete the luggage is given back to the airport to be transferred to Baggage Claim and Disney’s Magical Express service pulls the luggage on behalf of the Guest. If Orlando is not the Guest's first port of entry into the United States then the Guest has already completed the Customs process and does not have to claim luggage.

The outbound portion of Disney’s Magical Express (from a Disney Resort to Orlando International Airport) offers Resort Guests complimentary return transportation from their hotel to Orlando International Airport..........

A secondary benefit of the return trip to the Orlando International Airport – Resort Airline Check-In – offers remote check-in for select Guests, allowing them to check their luggage and receive their airline boarding passes at their Disney Resort. At this time, this remote check-in service is only available for Guests flying domestically on the following airlines: American, Delta (including Song), Continental, and United (including Ted).

Okay, I will agree with that. I, for one, am glad I'm not using DME until mid-June. Should be interesting to see what transpires afer May 5. Should make for some interesting reading here on the boards!!

.

Which is exactly what I said in my post! I don't open my mouth and let my belly rumble unless I know what I am talking about. I will be flying into MCO from London, and my luggage WILL go with DME, from the 2nd baggage claim, just as I thought.

Thank you Deb, you are the voice of reason yet again. I won't post about this any more as I will just wear out my brain  .

Most of our Canadian friends go thru US customs in their home airports (can't you do that in Shannon too?)

We can go through Immigration here in Ireland at both Dublin and Shannon airports so the flights are pre-cleared which saves a lot of time on the other side. We do have to go through customs on the U.S. side though but that shouldn't take too long, well not as long as going through Immigration. It's a great facility really, especially as we'd be so tired after an 8/9 hour flight! We're flying to New York (staying there for a few days) so our flight to MCO will be a domestic one but even if it wasn't it's great to know that international guests are welcome to use the Magical Express feature. I'm really excited about it because it feels to me like our holiday will begin right there in the airport!!

I like that assertiveness. You go girl!!! :rotfl2:

you are the voice of reason yet again.

That's the funniest thing said on this thread yet!! 'Me' and 'reason' together in one sentence? LOL! DH says you must have responded to me by accident.

Having done Disney cruise's sounds to me like the Magical Express works the exact same way.

Doesn't matter what airlines you arrive on at MCO. Disney Cruise Lines will transport your bags to the ship the day of the sailing if you are using their tansportation and put the tags on your bags. After checking in your bags at the airport you will not see them until getting into your room at the ship.

After the cruise, if going straight back to the airport for a flight that day you can check your bags at the port only with certain airlines. Otherwise, you take your bags with you on the bus to the airport or on whatever other transportation you're using.

This seems to work well for Disney Cruise Lines. Not sure why it wouldn't work well for Walt Disney World Resorts.

Deb, you poor woman! I will say it again VOICE OF REASON! Say it loud and say it proud.

The belly rumbling expression I think is a Scottish one. I love it, it's funny and to the point. Glad you approve!

DebIreland, I have some questions about the SNN/Galway areas, I sent you a PM if you have time to read it.

Thanks!

Bingo!! this system is not new. It works for DCL, it will work for DME. It is the same system. Just everyday, rather than just on cruise days. (provided people read the info sent them, attach tags, etc.)

I would say first of all most people will READ the information package that comes with the luggage tags that everyone who is going to use ME will receive. And if they do not then they pretty much deserve to be waiting for there luggage instead of knowing the luggage will be automatically directed to their resort for them. :teeth:
Second, most people who have been confused on this thread are people who have only taken the word of someone they talked to on the phone. :confused3 It is very easy for verbal communication to get mixed up and to get confused. This is why there is always written communication that you should read. And again if it isn't being read and someone is only taken the verbal communication for the gospel then they deserve to have problems with this service. :rolleyes1
Don't mean to sound harsh, but there have been so many threads about everything from ME to resort bus transportation, etc that no one actually reads the official communication from Disney, but they take the word of someone they talk to on the phone. Just because someone works at a job does not mean they are good at the job and does not mean they know everything. Who knows, that person could be in the process of being fired and have decided to see how many people they can mess with and confuse until they are finally booted out the door. :rotfl:

Just a reassurance for some of the skeptical people about ME. My AAA TA told me Disney has been doing the luggage service for years for the cruises & have not had a problem with it. So to Disney it really is not new!! (I hope this has not already been posted - i did not read all posts) :sunny:
