Unfathomable: Church Massacre

I think you over state Ole Miss recruiting. The had some success, but the were players the lost out on, and others they didn't pursue.

They have done just fine, thanks. Are you persuming to know why they didn't pursue some players. There is more to it than playing ability.

I am a State fan so not really something I care about but they have never been slacking too much.

Have we discussed removing the Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial? Both were slave owners. I guess someone would volunteer to hack Washington's and Jefferson's faces off Mt. Rushmore. There are an awful lot of schools named after men who owned slaves.
We should remember that many US citizens had slavery in their ancestry no matter the country from where their forebearers arrived. Any country that was conquered in history had people enslaved by the conquerors-Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa, Far East, Polynesia, Australia, etc. I don't think Amazon, eBay, or any other seller should sell flags from any countries in these areas because to someone the flag might represent slavery.

Excellent points about the Washington Monument and Mount Rushmore Disneychick (commentators on CNN have already asked why the Jefferson Memorial still exists). As well as your pointing out the hypocrisy of Amazon/eBay etc. for banning the sale of one flag associated with slavery but not others. The UK has just as onerous a history in this area as the US, but I don't see any calls here for blacklisting the Union Jack or shutting down the UK pavilion at Epcot. :rolleyes1

But be careful here about naming new elements the "aggrieved" cultural cleaners may add to their increasingly long hit list. They tend to immediately come back and question your character, implying anyone who raises the "how-far-do-we-go-with-steam-cleaning-our-history" point is insensitive and heartless.

Really? Stop selling US and UK flags? You are one of a very few who would compare sovereign nations that existed for centuries and that have grown, evolved, and, to one degree or, another learned from it's mistakes to a secessionist nation that didn't even last a decade before its military defeat.

You must have never spent time on college campuses like Columbia and Rutgers or reading comments on The Huffington Post. :coffee:

They weren't burning the battle flag in Charleston. But "progressives" in Philadelphia were:

Exactly what are those " traditional" cultures that they are trying to cleanse??

Yes, you've uncovered my secret agenda. I want to rid the country of fried chicken. After that it's onto grits.

Your concerns are justified, for the real agenda of the cultural cleaners is not just to remove the battle flag of the army of northern Virginia from public display.

Their real agenda is to isolate and weaken the entire South as a cultural and political force. The fact the South is a bastion for traditional, institutional American culture is a thorn in the side of the cultural cleaners. They also hate the fact is it is is an electoral geographic stronghold for a political party they view as the opposition. Lastly, the low tax, less regulated South also happens to be doing quite well economically, which also bugs the heck out the cleansers.

All of these are reasons they despise the South and are using the tragedy in Charleston as an excuse to try and demonize the history and traditions of the entire South, as a means to ostracize and marginalize it.
I agree with your statements here. There is an agenda going on. Wake up people.

I know your joking,
but now that you've brought the idea to the table, if someone comes after my Fried chicken or Grits, I blame you.

Ok I'm not sure if I should laugh or be insulted.

I am fully aware that there are opportunistic politicians (personally I think that's a definition of a politician) that would exploit their own mama's if they thought it would get them somewhere. so yes there are definitely those who would try to benefit from this massacre but sorry Muushka, I am awake.
I fully know why I dislike that flag, I fully know what it means to many African Americans. I am fully capable, like you or anyone else of gathering information and forming a well thought out conclusion. I am not on some agenda to destroy football, God (considering I just spent 2.5 hours in church, I would think that would have been a waste of time) or anyone else's way of life. Al Sharpton is not whispering in my ear trying to "convert" me. I got rid of cable so I don't even hear about these bozo's

So no I am not "asleep", neither am I gullible or stupid. I do not have to agree with all folks but I would never assume your position was because you were somehow stupid or mislead.

Jeez I feel like I'm back before in 2008 when people were telling me the only reasons I felt a certain way was because I wanted a welfare check. Man, the flag symbolizes very negative connotations. It's that simple

I'm out

There are numerous "things", that offend me or make me feel uncomfortable, but I don't feel the need to wipe them from the face of the earth. Not everyone shares my beliefs, nor should they be forced to do so. They shouldn't be ridiculed, shamed or shouted down for voicing their thoughts or taking a stance. It's okay to be different.

This isn't about healing. Make no mistake, this is retribution...whipping the South one more time. Hate, bitterness, and vengeance are alive and well. It is stirred on a daily basis to divide and conquer.

Eliza, I did mean to imply that the confederate flag should not offend you. I also do not for minute believe that you have an agenda. I did not mean to imply that one person on this thread has one.
Nobody here wants anything destroyed. Including me and you.
And making the statement "Wake up people" is not secret code intended to put you or anyone else down.

I made the statement because we are all talking about a flag. One that symbolizes ugly things for certain people. My point is that this conversation that we are all up in arms about, the confederate flag, is not the focus. It is a distraction. It is something intended to cause division, which it is doing wonderfully. See how well it's working?

I was born and raised in the north. I have no affection or history with the confederate flag. Personally I believe if I had realized it caused so much sadness for this many people, I would have hoped that what is going on today would have happened years ago.

Why is this just now an issue? Why didn't people fight for it to come down years ago? Why is that?

USA Track and Field removed the MS state flag from their display of the 50 state flags. But nothing is getting shoved down anyone's throat. Right.

People have been fighting for it to come down. There has been uproar in the black community for decades over that flag and the negative stereotypes that some companies use to represent black people. I'm 47. I'm grew up and still live in Brooklyn, New York. These issues have been out there all of my life.

I too grew up in the North, in a series of de facto segregated neighborhood schools in the 50s and 60s. I can assure you that in college and the military in the 60s and 70s people were fighting against that symbolic piece of cloth back then. The battle against that specific symbol, as well as other cultural symbols, is not a recent battle.

For a long time we lost as evidenced by recent events. I'm just glad that more and more people are finally realizing the pain these symbols cause and are now expressing a willingness to remove them. Will that eliminate racism in America? No. But it's a start.

If you are talking KFC, I will join your crusade. That stuff's nasty.

You don't understand the difference between men who owned slaves and men who fought a war (and lost) against their own country?
