Unexpected Speed bump

Based on a different post, it looks like you have a very expensive trip planned (10 days over Christmas at Yacht Club). If you have no emergency savings, you should rethink the trip in general. If not and you still insist on YC, go for two fewer nights and don't go to Universal. That'll probably save you around $2k right there.

I'll go look for that post, but I thought the OP came back and said that the people she was traveling with decided to stay on-site, rather than at their timeshare so she has to pay them back, although that doesn't make all of the $5000.

Nope, that was a different poster. The OP just said she hadn't purchased airfare yet, coming from west coast & they had unexpected expenses earlier in the year.

Or switch resorts, downgrade to a moderate or try Swan & Dolphin. Or a combination of less days & less expensive resort.

Thank you for the help guys. I've read every response and I'm taking all of them into consideration.

Do you have any old/unused gold that you could sell? I cleaned out my jewelry box and got rid of some chunky old gold bracelets that I would never wear again after I read a thread on this board about how people were selling their old gold.

I also read on here how people were selling their blood to go to Disney. Didn't know people would go to great lengths for a disney trip.

Honestly, I would just cancel the Disney trip and plan it for somewhere closer/cheaper for this year. 5k is a lot of money and the stress of it could ruin your vacation. Many of us have had to cancel Disney trips before due to unexpected circumstances. Its a bummer, yes. But just plan to go somewhere else that none of you have been so its a new experience for everyone.

If there was ANY way to add a few days to your vacation and just drive, that $3000 in your pocket would be nice. With 4 adults, the driving shouldn't be that bad.

Do you know much they would be spending on gas and the wear and tear on a car. They are coming from California. That is a few days of driving at least. That is more time off from work and more stress. Just postpone till next year.

I'm just going to put this out there.. I have no idea exactly where in California you are flying from. However, southwest airlines (book directly from their site) has tickets from LAX to MCO in October for as low as $206 PER ADULT! Granted, that is one way. I honestly just picked a random major airport in CA.. you would have to look into it yourself. You said that there are 4 of you, correct? $2000 is a whole lot easier to swallow than $3000 on such short notice.

Yes, there are probably layovers and yes, you sometimes have to fly at 6am in order to get the best deals.. and no, it isn't business class or anything. BUT.. I've flown Southwest and it isn't so bad. My cousin flies ALOT and almost always uses Southwest. There is also a credit card for them that you can get to earn points for free flights.

Oh.. and you get two free checked bags plus your carry on.

On the flights business, i'm from SoCal myself, and also suggest Southwest. Not sure about Norcal or central, but out of LAX i've seen flights as low as $144 one way flying out by Dec 16. Rest of December has fluctuated between $250 and $400 one way.
Between flying out to MCO early, flying out on Christmas, using points for 3 one way flights, and the blow of one person HAVING to fly out fri dec 18($360 vs $150 for rest of us) , paid $1500 for roundtrip airfare for 5 adults for our vacation Dec 16-25. And it was a bit more since we chose to fly out of SNA (convenience of not having to drive through LA worth it to us).

Don't you have savings or a 401k? You can borrow money from your retirement and pay at back.

I'd cancel the trip first!

OP, could you take extra time and drive? We got SW cards at one point to utilize the introductory points and free flights. Is that an option?

I have finals (I'm in college) and my mom won't be able to get that much time off of work. :(

So far the Southwest suggestion sounds good. I looked them up. I also looked into some other airline credit cards as some of you have suggested. Thanks! :)
