So, I’ve been wanting to take a solo trip for a long time, and was planning to finally do it this summer. My travel partner for my DLR trip this week got sick, and I decided to go solo! (We rescheduled our joint trip for spring break.) I have never been in the parks solo, even while I was a local AP. I’ve changed a lot since then and love doing things alone now.

I know there are lots of experienced solo travelers on here - any tips for me?? I have 3 day PH, planning to get G+ at least the 2 full days.

I’ve done countless solo trips and know several people who do the same. If you plan to rope drop on any of your days (and I hope you do on at least one of them), I strongly suggest doing Peter Pan first and then go on to the other Fantasyland attractions.

As far as being there on your own, for people that aren’t accustomed to venturing forth solo, it can sometimes get lonely. I don’t have that problem, mainly because I’m happy to strike up conversations with nearly anyone at any time. Also, when/if I pass a group that’s struggling to get a pic, I’ll often offer to take it for them. Most of the time they’ll take me up on it and perhaps a brief conversation will follow. I can get by on small doses of socializing so that’s a help. Also, I love talking with CMs. I’ll often ask them what their favorite, most memorable or most unusual park experiences have been. I’ve heard a lot of interesting stories, some of them nearly unbelievable. But it’s another great way to pick up your spirits if you get a bit low and, again, a great way to hear some tasty anecdotes.

One other small thing I do to take a mental break is to bring along a writing project in which I’m involved. I write for a music magazine here in LA and also write TV comedy pilots (hoping to sell one sooner or later ;-)). Once or twice throughout the day I’ll pull a page from my pocket and work on it for 10-20 minutes. It’s like a form of meditation for me and when I’m done, I’m recharged and ready to return to the Disney experience :-). I also like to grab a cup of tea and people-watch from benches near the hub/along Main Street.

One last thing to keep in mind. There are many other solo travelers at the park with you. Some people can feel awkward on their own. But there are likely dozens of other soloists there on any given day. You’re not weird, creepy or alone… even when you’re on your own :-).

I hope you find these tips useful. Have a great time!

I'm not a frequent solo tripper, I much prefer having a buddy along. But I have done a few solo single days here and there.

Go with your own flow. Think about the things you do with your friend that involve a joint decision or 'waiting around' and enjoy doing them at your own pace in your own way.

Even though my BFF and I both loved to shop, shopping with someone does involve some compromise as far as shops you may not be super-interested in (because they are) and some waiting around when you're done and they aren't. So enjoy visiting only the shops you want to visit, going at your own pace, and leaving when you're done.

Same for dining. There's usually a 'you choose, no YOU choose' decision and, again, compromise on where to eat to find a place that sounds good to both. So, enjoy eating what you want, when and where you want to eat it. And not having to wait until you're both hungry to eat a meal.

I've mentioned before that my only real downer feeling on solo days is not having someone to ride the rides with. If that is your 'main deal' (it's mine) then you may feel a vague feeling of, IDK, loneliness after riding.

My biggest tip is just to have something to do while you wait since you won't have a friend to talk to. You could chat with people around you or do something on your phone. Bring an extra battery pack if you pick the latter option.

The other more minor thing is to remember that you won't have someone to hold your spot in line or for a show so make sure you go to the restroom or grab your snacks before committing to a long wait.

As a PP said, focusing on the things YOU love is just so freeing. I love photography so will bring my real camera and focus on unique shots, little details, all the things that take time and I can‘t do with others in tow. I once spend the greater part of an hour fiddling with my settings (and my little travel tripod on a trash can, lol) to get some really unique nightime carousel pics. No way my kids (or my hubby) would have waited for THAT! ;)

There are some great ideas on a recent thread about free or inexpensive things to do that often focus on the details of the parks which is perfect when you are solo.

Also take advantage of that single rider line - I’ve met many other solo travelers in line.

Above all else: ENJOY!!! I always schedule at least an afternoon away just for myself when we visit, and have a glorious 2 days planned next month just for myself before meeting up with friends. Its the best!!!

I know you’re a SUPER experienced solo visitor, so I really appreciate your tips! This part especially is helpful! I don’t write professionally, but I do love to journal, which is also very meditative for me.
