So, my partner has been unemployed now for 6 months and we knew that the first round of payments was due to end, but we were assured by an unnamed person in Raleigh NC that she was eligible for an automatic extension.

Fast forward to yesterday. Lisa applies on line and gets a message stating that her benefits have been exhausted. WTH??? So this morning she goes to the Unemployment Office and is told that due to the fact that her benefits expired ONE DAY after the bill was supposed to be signed, that there was a computer glitch and there is no check coming this week. They do not know when the situation will be resolved. Hundreds of thousands of people here in NC are supposedly in the same boat.

Now, other employees from her former company who were laid off earlier in the same week that she was are continuing JUST FINE!!!!

There is something SERIOUSLY wrong with this entire system. I can only hope that it does get resolved and that her check arrives as scheduled next week.

Keep us in your prayers.

Linda

Wow, it's hard enough to live ON that stipend, way worse OFF. I'm so sorry L&L...

Being unemployed is terrible. I lost my job in July and I still haven't found one. I worry every week if the money will be in my bank account or not. I file this week so I'm wondering if the same thing is going to happen to me.

Every state runs their own unemployment office and has their own system so what happens in one state isn't necessarily going to happen in another.

OP, I hope things work out for you.

I hope your partner was able to get this problem resolved.. This is one of those situations where you have to wonder whether it's a good idea to have any kind of bill payment automatically paid out of your account on a certain date..

I receive my income once a month and I never, ever pay anything until I'm certain that the direct deposit has been made.. Employers mess up; SS messes up; disability payments can be late; and obviously unemployment isn't exempt from messing up either..:sad2:

I hope the extension goes through - so many people need that right now..:goodvibes

One senator held up the extension legislation so it expired. It will probably take a week or so for the situation to get straightened out. Sorry this happened to you.
