Underwhelmed with new gold status

A lot of dcl perks is costing them nothing to give away when u think about it

I just think compared to other lines and when I seen royal Caribbean’s loyalty system it makes Disney’s very poor. Royal offers free upgrades to suites etc if u cruise with them enough

Disney really needs to look at this and give more for such loyal cruise. U would think with there prices only going up and up. Throwing in a few more things wouldn’t be that hard

The thing is, Disney doesn't need to. I've been going to the parks A LOT and staying a deluxes, getting the dining plan, spending a ton of money generally, and there are zero rewards programs for the Disney parks and hotels. They fill up regardless. I think disney knows it doesn't need rewards to fill its ships.

Your probably right but it’s just a shame they don’t when other cruise lines do offer such better benefits at half the cost. But I no what you mean

This is the truth of it really. Disney doesn't do a lot to reward perks because they already know that if you are loyal to the Disney brand, you will be back anyway. If you are not loyal to the brand, then giving you a complimentary upgrade probably won't change your mind.

Odd...I KNOW we didn't get a choice and I really don't think we got any of the 3. When do they ask you? I recently booked another and no one asked then.
We got a letter on one cruise, and just told the room host our preference. Another time we stopped by Guest Services before we received a letter and told them what we wanted.

I guess it all depends on what you cruise for. I don't really cruise for perks but because I love cruising. (Don't get me wrong...when I hit Platinum I'm definitely doing Palo...but I do it anyway, even when I pay for it.)

And also, it depends on what you're into. I'm Platinum on Royal Caribbean, and TBH I think the only thing I used this summer was 10% off one beverage. I don't do casinos or Bingo, so those "benefits" are lost on me. A boring time to go and meet with one or two officers and maybe get some watered-down drink from a limited selection? Yawn. Bathrobe to use on board? EW GROSS! I'm not impressed with the Royal Caribbean logo-wear, so that discount is lost on me. Etc., etc. Any kind of cabin upgrade or discount you have to do all kinds of gymnastics to see which is cheaper (almost always whatever offer they have for everyone).

I'd personally rather cruise on a line I'm comfortable with and trust with my wheat allergy - and right now, that is 100% Disney. Before this past summer, I did consider Royl Caribbean to be very close in that respect - but my experience this past summer was NOT great both with stuff mislabeled on the menus AND a head server who a) argued with me that something that IS a type of wheat product was safe (it's not) and b) waited until I filled out the mid-cruise survey complaining about how limited my options were compared to 2 years ago on Brilliance (also in the Med...so it wasn't a supply issue).

We also received our choice of a fruit tray, sparkling wine or a small box of chocolates and the complimentary meal at Palo. We would have also been given 6 yellow bonus jackpot cards with the purchase of any 4 game bingo session and a $10 discount on a 3-day Rainforest Room pass.
How did you get those? Did they leave a card in your room? We're first time gold this upcoming cruise. Thanks!

Those are the benefits for platinum. But, when you do reach that point - yes they leave the gifts and the information letter in your state room.
