I bought "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson today. I've seen it recommended here numerous times and I just wanted to thank you all. :thumbsup2

I have a pretty good working knowledge of how ISO, Shutter and Aperture work just based on experience. I've never had the pieces put together so clearly as they are in this book. It's so easy to read to, not at all like the text books I've referred to in the past.

I have two of his books - Understanding Digital Photography and Understanding Exposure. They repeat each other a lot, but there are a few differences.

I have to agree with you - he is very easy to understand. I sat there reading his books with my camera and manual sitting here there as well. I went from his book to the camera to the manual and back again several times.

It was a fantastic teaching tool for me as well.

What I like most about reading Understanding Exposure is the examples he uses. He has a sample picture for just about everything he talks about. I think that makes it even that much more helpful. Each photo has a description of what he wanted when he took the pic as well as the important info, shutter, aperture, etc..

He does an excellent job.

Glad you enjoy the book too.

I've got to get a copy. I couldn't find it in Borders or Barnes and Noble. Where are people buying it?

I got mine at Books-A-Million. They were out of stock the first time I went but they said it was a regular stock item. I checked back a week later and it was in.

I bought mine from Amazon last fall.

I still haven't read it though. I'm really bad about about making time to read, too much time on the DIS I guess...but this thread is inspiring me!!:teeth:

I also have the National Geographic Guide to Digital Photography which I bought at a local bookstore based on a couple of recommendations from a co-worker and the teacher of a photography class I took.

Pea-n-Me,

I'm not sure exactly where you live, but the Barnes and Noble in North Dartmouth had them in stock the last time I checked, although I did get mine at Amazon like most.

pea, i got mine at barnes and noble and if they happen to be out of stock they will usually order something for you( at least ours does) they also have it at joseph beth booksellers if you have one of those nearby

Thank you, I'll try again at the bookstores, I have to get a couple of other books anyway. To be honest, we've started home renovations and I haven't been reading much (except for home books) or taking pictures other than at my DS's baseball games and things like First Communions, etc. This time of year is always so busy.

On a good note, my house is coming out nice (renovations are long overdue) so it's worth it to put all my energies toward that for a while.

Andrew, I'm on the South Shore, but I will try Borders again, thanks!
