Hi all,
I have been diagionised this week with an under active thyroid i have atarted medication but have felt no better how llong does it take for the meds to start working or will i always feel tired now that i have this condition??
Any advice would be really appreciated i have 4 kids under 10 and feel like at the moment i just seem to be lying on the couch while they play round me :sad1:
We have atrip to wdw in 3 months and Im scared that ill burn out after a day :sad1:

My DP has a thyroid that basically is shut down. Her medication needs about 10 days to two weeks or so to really get her back to feeling somewhat normal if she has been off it for awhile. You should start to feel somewhat better in just a few days but to get back to "normal" about that long. Any longer call your dr. the dosage may need to be adjusted. :)

4 kids under 10 and you are tired? Can't imagine why...

Hope meds make you feel better. You'd better start working out now (no, I'm not joking). Even if you just lift soup cans for twenty minutes a night or do an exercise video, you need to get your strength up to do WDW. Helping your thyroid isn't going to make you feel like superwoman overnight. You need to help, too. Are you getting any sleep at all?:grouphug:

My problem is im always asleep DH had day off today so ive been asleep all morning. Felt loads better so went out to get few bits and bobs from shopping cam home and went back to sleep for another couple of hours!!!
I agree though as soon as i get some energy im going to need to get some exercise in just to lose some of the weighjt im putting on by doing nothing !!!

Hi Buzz,
I was also diagnosed with Hypothyroidism about a month ago. I think they tend to start off at a lower dose. I was told to have my levels checked after being on the meds about 6 weeks, then they'll adjust the dosage if needed. I know what you mean about the fatigue. Also, depression can go along with this and contribute to feeling tired, so if you think that might be the case, speak with your doctor. Exercise, even though it's the last thing you feel like doing, is really necessary. Get out and walk (and get some sunshine!).

Thanks Kirbydog good to know im not on my own here!!!
i was told that i needed to go back after 6 weeks too so at least thats the norm!!
I do try and get out but my legs hurt so much when I walk even the smallest distance. Its my sons birthday tomorrow so I had to go out today to get his cake and bits and bobs by the time i got back to the car I was in tears my legs were so painful I really couldnt take another step.
I dont think im depressed just exceptionally frustrated im normally so active and im far too independent for my own good!!!
Anyway thanks for at least making me feel that my dr is doing the right thing and not just fobbing me off!!

i was diagnosed about 7 years ago, and when i first was diagnosed i was so bad i thought i had the beginnings of alzheimers, its was a slow process for me they had started me off at 50 mcg which was too high a dose for me and brought it down to 25mcgs because i have such a sensitive system, i ended up shaking and shaky so what they did for me was ever month i would go for a blood test and they would increase the dose in incremints of .12 they did that until it was regulated about 3 years ago when i finally was up to 88mcgs, but then this year when i went for my physical . they had to raise it up to 100mcgs, when that regulated i now go every 6 months for a check up and followup appt. i have gained about 10 pounds a year and md sez its cause i have a stubborn metabolism, and i am now VERY sensitive to the cold outside! once they regulate you you'll feel better than you have in a long time and things will be fixed that you didnt even know bothered you :) you should be ok by the time you go to disney, and yes i do exercise everyday, i do a 30 minute workout tape with denise austin, but i truly didnt start that until my thyroid was regulated. heres sending you some pixie dustpixiedust: oh and i forgot, be sure to drink milk as sometimes the thyroid meds will thin your bones, i have started osteopenia, which means my bones are starting to thin but they are not thin enough to call it osteoporosis, and the other treat i have is i bruise really easily, big black and blues from a little bump, it almost looks like im on a blood thinner but im not.

They have started me on 25 mcg as I have a really sensitive system when it comes to taking meds so dr said i would be better having too little than too much. She did say that I will go up to 50mcg in Jan when I go for another blood test - I got really mad that she wasnt givng me what i needed ut after reading what you put about the shakes im glad that she did it that way now!!
I too suffer with the cold at the momentand I wonder how much that is contributing to the fact that my legs hurt so much. Glad to hear that you think ill be fine for my trip was starting to panic !!

your joints will hurt, until they regulate you, i also had a few mood swings which was totally out of character for me, once you feel better , trust me you'll be able to tell when your thyroids off, that's how good your gonna feel.:santa: also when you take your thyroid meds after your regulated it's almost the feeling of taking a sugar pill. it should not bother you in any way, but believe me you'll know if you don't take it or if you dont have enough of a dose because you'll feel the symptoms coming back, thats what i mean by you'll be able to tell when your thyroids off.
