I know kids under 3 eat free at buffets. What about at a place like Akershus? Do they just eat off of the cold buffet and whatever we order? What if we want to order off the kids menu is it the full $18? Is there a middle ground here?

For children under 3 they eat free from whatever is offered at the buffet. You should not have to pay anything for this. You will also be allowed to order milk/juice or whatever as well. We did a lot of buffets in Dec. with DGD who is 2. She got her "chockat miLk" or apple juice and got to pick what she liked at the buffet as well. She also went up with to the dessert bar too.

what about at regular TS places, where you order off the menu? Do they just charge you the menu price? It would prob be cheaper to just pay for the ddp for little ones...

If only this were possible. Unfortunately, you cannot buy the dining plan for a 2 year old (unless you are also willing to pay for them to have a child's admission ticket to WDW for your entire trip). We have a 2 year old as well. We're mostly doing character buffets. At the TS restaurants where they have reasonably priced kids meals, we will probably order her an entre. However, she'll be sharing with us at CRT and Princess Storybook Dining.

When we took Alex he was 2 and he drank his sisters drink at every meal as she only orders Water. We would ask for a small plate for him and either split his sisters meal with him or let him have some of ours. Not a big deal. At Akerhus he ate off the buffet and then we did breakfast and he could have some of it. It really was no big deal at all.

Thanks for your answers. We are on the DDP but no way am I putting my 2yo's on it since I'd have to buy them tickets and they won't eat that much. I think in most places they'll just share with us or their older sister. The issue is that I have two 2yo's (twins) so sometimes I think we'll be getting them a kids meal to split (like at CA grill) when I don't feel like tailoring what I order to their tastes. There might be enough from the cold buffet for them (like cold cuts, cheese, and fruit), but I wasn't sure if maybe they wanted to split a kids pizza. But the more I think about it the more I think they'll be fine with cold cuts, cheese, and fruit. They love all of those things. I just wasn't sure if they would see their older sister's food and want some of it. I suppose she could share too.

I just know if I order them something they won't eat it and if I don't order them something, they'll want it. :lmao:

If I'm not mistaken, at Akershus breakfast they bring out a plate "family style" of breakfast items - eggs, bacon etc along with the breakfast bar. So the 2 year olds should be able to eat from this as well. If you want more, you just ask. Lilo and Stitch's breakfast at 'Ohana was this way also and was very good and convenient for character dining.

I guess I should have clarified. We're going for lunch so the food is not served family style (as far as I can tell).

Akershus has provided a free entree for my under 3 for lunch or dinner every time. It's always a pleasant surprise. YMMV, but we've eaten there 4 times.

ETA: this is an exception to most non-buffet TS restaurants.
