Hi Uncleromulus-- since you seem to be the GURU of restuarants at WDW, please help me out here.

My husband and I are going to WDW by ourselves. ( WOOHOO)
We will be celebrating our 17th anniversary. We are staying at AKL. I want to have a couple of nice dinners during our trip. You know there is much to be said with eatting with no kids fighting, so I want to enjoy this..
We both like wine, but we can't afford the V&A, any places and suggestions..

Thanks millions
Linda

Uncleromulus is definitely the DIS dining guru, but to keep this bumped to the top I hope you don't mind if I give my 2 cents worth. My husband and I love dining in WDW and our kids are grown, so we're enjoying experiencing dining as a couple.

Here would be my suggestions for a 'couple's' dining experience:
--Jiko's, nice atmosphere, great food, wine and excellent servers
--California Grill, again great food, wine. but it can be quite noisy
and busy feeling
--Palio's, love it! the strolling musician's add a wonderful romantic touch.

Just as a roundabout figure, I would plan on spending approximately $100.00 at any of the above places.

I'm sure Uncleromulus will be able to add greatly to my suggestions and descriptions.
Have a great time!:D

Helping to keep this up at the top too until Uncleromulus can offer his expertise!

Last trip we really enjoyed Jiko - wonderful food, very quiet and I loved watching the "sunset" change colors while we dined. We also stayed at AKL and had dinner out on our balcony. It's pricey also ($99 for dinner/wine for 2) but very romantic - sitting alone, watching the animals on the savannah.

We also really enjoy dining at Citricos (it was the only restaurant besides Emerils that we have dined at twice in two trips). It is also very quiet and adult oriented. Their veal shank (osso bucco) is extremely good!

Thanks for the confidence--but quite obvious there are plenty of other Board members who could easily put me at a distance when it comes to fine dining!!
And they already have listed my sugestions:

Palio--Italian "upscale" relatively few children, great wine list, strolling muscians. I usually get one of the veal selections.

California grill, especially the "wine room" if you prefer to be out of the way of a lot of the noise, etc. Excellent wine list and most bottles can be poured by the glass--a nice option.

Jiko--right where you are staying and most times, relatively quiet. I like the Braised Lamb Shank. And a fine wine list.

Citrico's--at least you get a chance to walk past V&A if you eat here!! That veal shank is excellent, as is the Honey/Paprika Pork tenderloin.

Only as an alternate--Portobello Yacht Club in DD is a nice spot. Mostly adults, "upscale Italian" good wines. Ask for John Combs if you go--he's a fine server there.
Hope this helps!!

Thank you ALL for all the suggestions..
I have to say that I never heard of Jiko's or Palio's. All those dozen plus trips to WDW with kids haven't allowed me to experience some of the fine dinning at WDW.
Fine dining to my kids is chef mickey's. :)

Thank you all again - I will write a review when we get home in August.

SamSam,
Hi. I love your 2 cents. I very much appreciate your suggestion.
I need to read the resturant board more often. Every one hear has wonderful suggestions. :)
Going a dozen plus times to disney with the kids, we never got to really try what disney has to offer. I'm really excited about going with just hubby and I. So any other suggestions please let me know. My dh told me the other night that it will be strange going with out kids.. Which it will be, but it's an experience I'm looking forward to.

Thanks again.

Palio? May I ask where that is located..I'm assuming not onsite?

Palio's is located in the Swan.

Linda, The first time my husband and I went without our kids we were also a bit apprehensive about how much fun it would be. What we've found is that we enjoy it even more, but in a different way. We wander through the parks people watching, occasionally going on a favorite ride and stopping to watch any show that catches our fancy. We definitely eat at finer restaurants, which we both enjoy doing. We also do the tours which we find very interesting.
Have a fabulous trip!

Although our last experience there was not a favorite based on service, Artist Point has always had wonderful food and wine.

I agree that Artist P would be a nice place also. Mrs. U always comments favorably on the wine selections there.
Most of the kids (and noise) are over at Whispering Canyon, so in the past meals we've had at AP, it's been relatively quiet by Disney standards.
