I know someone mentioned this recently but can't find the post. Everyone should go to www.missingmoney.com and see if your state is linked - you can check if you have any unclaimed funds by entering your name. If your state is NOT linked check out your state's website and look at the "Unclaimed Property" section and hopefully you can search.

I work for a law firm and had to use this site recently, and for laughs I typed in my own name after looking up the info for our client. To my surprise it showed that there was something in my name in the state where we used to live. I printed out the form and sent it in less than 3 weeks ago, not knowing how much was involved (I figured $50 would be a nice surprise!) I got the check today and it was over $500! This just when I was worried about getting through to DH's next paycheck since we had some stuff come up.

So...ya never know! I also found two friends' names and am making them aware of it. (One of them shows up several times!)

Thanks for the website - we went out and found some for my DH. We also found my in-laws and some of my cousins, and aunt, uncle too. Extra pixie dust to you!!!

Well, I didn't find anything for me- but I found my grandfather's name, great uncle's name and two other deceased relatives! I will have to call my grandmother in the morning and let her know! :cool1: She would like that I bet! :goodvibes Thanks for the info!

I found some old lost paychecks right before we were getting married on there several years ago. It was a nice surprise. I always check now hoping for something new to pop up. lol

Congratulations to you!!!

I was on the list a few years ago and I got 2 checks totaling around $600.

I'm on the list again this year, but I don't know what for. popcorn:: Just sent my claim form. I can't wait to see what it is.

I found my mother's name on this site over a year ago. Sadly, she thought it was a scam. I tried to convince her otherwise, but she won't budge. :confused3

My daughter found $1700 in my name in NJ and they promptly paid after submitting forms.

Thanks! I just found some money for my nephew! :cheer2:

Edit: Just found some for my deceased great aunt, and possibly for my deceased paternal and maternal grandfathers!
Thanks again!!

I found 4 entires for my Gpa (deceased), each one listed as above $100 many months ago. I took the print out to Xmas to show my Mom and Uncle, 2 of the 3 living heirs (kids). They seemed disinterested and figured it was some sort of hoax, even though I tried to tell them. They never followed up. So frustrating as I know my parents could use any $$ they could get.

I went to my state's unclaimed property website and found my name. When I called, the person said it was $64 and she would send me the forms via email. Once I read the forms, they wanted me to send copies of my driver's license, social security card, and other stuff I can't remember at the moment. I was really nervous about sending an identity theft starter kit to a state worker (and I am one!) so I didn't do it. I know they need to establish identity, but it seems like there could be a way with less personal risk.

That is my family's issue. They refuse to give up their SS#. I tried to tell them, but they would rather go without the potential of hundreds or even thousands of dollars. :confused3

Would she trust the state treasurer's office? She can call them.

I wish there was a way to establish identity in person and get your money. That option was not offered in my case. For the kind of money you're talking about I would be willing to show documents to establish my identity; I just don't want someone to have copies of them.

I suppose I'm not a trusting soul by nature, but in this economy you never know what might be the last straw for an otherwise honest person. On the other hand, some people get jobs where they will have access to this kind of information so that they can do this exact thing.

Just found my sister listed...three times! I called her, but she is NOT interested.
Our conversation lasted all of 20 seconds. huh.

How can people be NOT interested in free money? bizarre. It's your money- get it back!

Crazy, isn't it. Hey, fil out a form and get your won money back. Nahh, the state can keep it. Baffles me. :confused3 I submitted a few months ago and got about $60 from an old cell phone rebate. Not sure if I overpaid my last bill or what? Hey, I'll take it!
