The church my cub scout pack meets at was broken into and vandalized last night. I received a call from the church asking if we could find somewhere else to meet this week as the church was a mess and they didn't know when it would be ready to be used again.

I know things like this happen everywhere, but I am not used to it hitting so close to home, we live and a very small town where everyone knows each other.

I know this church is struggling financially, so I am sure this will be a big blow to thier budget, unfortunately we are a very small pack and do not have the financial resources to help them much. Our pack has already offered to help anyway we can, but right now the church is still trying to figure out what needs to be done.

I think tonight DH and I will stop by and offer our help again, what our pack lacks in funds, it makes up for with hardworkers.

:sad2:

What a shame! I hope the vandalizers are caught soon. I'm sure the church leaders appreciate your thoughfulness in trying to help.

So sad.
A church in our area was broken into a few months back and had their copper cross that hung at the alter stolen(I think it was this..it was very expensive, they had it for a long time).
Luckly, the dumb dumb who stole it tried to sell it at a scrap yard and was turned in by authorities. Said dumb dumb just got out of jail a few days before stealing it :sad2: and is now back in jail.

Don't they have insurance? Did you know that some chalices and patens cost 10-15k. The candlestick holders can be equally expensive, and the large candles are $500. Our priest just bought a new chalice, and I'm wondering how our poor congregation is paying for it. What's more interesting is they sell that stuff on ebay. Who would have thought?

This was several years ago... One church I used to go to had a woman who was coming in, acting like she was going to put her kid into pre-school but who was actually stealing purses. That same church is on a busy intersection and also occasionally would have some electronic equipment go missing every once in a while.

agnes!

I am sure they have insurance, it sounds like they have a lot of clean up to do. DH and I will stop by tonight and see what if anything the adults and/or kids in our pack can do to help. We can scrub walls and mop floors with the best of them, and haul out anything that needs to be taken to the dumpster.

It sounds like the fire extinguishers were discharged and there is water damage.

Oh my, that's a terrible thing to have happen. It's always a shame to me when kids have to see the ugly side of life, its unavoidable I know but it bothers me just the same.

How awful! I am glad that you and the Cub scouts will be able to help. Community is important, especially during a difficult time.
