Hey guys, Just found some great fares for the spring. I booked the first leg of our trip for three people for $508.taxes included from Edmonton to LAX. No day of the week restriction.:cool1: Booking back was even cheaper and it was cheaper to book one way than return. In the end it was $912.Canadian taxes included, for all three of us.:woohoo: All travel search engines seem to be the same price

I check AC and WJ about six times a day. I just keep plugging in my dates. They change so much from day to day. The same flight on Friday was $210.00.Then yesterday it was $99. Last week it was $69 but you had to travel on tues, wed, or thurs.

One note for those who fly Air Canada, always check united.ca for any codeshare flights as sometimes the united price for the same flight is much cheaper than the aircanada.com webpage price. I booked our March break flights for 4 through united.ca for $1090 CDN for the same Air Canada flight which cost $2600 on aircanada.com. No baggage fees becuase flight operates first on Air Canada. Not all Air Canada flights are codeshare however and they may not be available in all markets, but out of Toronto, there are quite a few.

Do you have to pay for your baggage on the way back though, since your first flight will be on United. I looked at that route but my baggage costs would have wiped out any savings on tickets.

NO, as long as it is a flight operated by Air Canada, and it's your first or only flight of your trip, no. If you are connecting and the second leg (and thus the first leg of your return) is on united, then yes, there is a baggage charge. The fees are applied based on the company that you first fly with on your trip each way. In my case , it is a direct flight from Toronto and in both cases, on Air Canada aircraft, no fees and check in is done at Air Canada desk in both TO and MCO

WJ's cheap days are always off peak - thus the reason it can be great to leave on a Wednesday! We managed to get the direct flight from YOW to MCO return in December at $59 pp/each way. It was just a case of waiting it out

It works the other way, too! Our Christmas flights on United each way were waaayyy cheaper on Aircanada.com than they were on United.ca, by about $500!

We booked back in February for Dec 21-30 and haven't even seen anything like the prices we paid way back them. We got that price at 01:00 AM. I remember reading somewhere that checking just after midnight in your airline's head office's time zone could get you better prices. Maybe that's what happened? :)

Edited to add: Continental is now part of Star Alliance so their flights are now bookable through United and Air Canada.

i booked flights on united that was a code share but I assumed I had to pay the baggage fees. How do you confirm if you need to pay them?
Thanks Linda

Your best bet is to call to confirm (AC or united) but according to the frequent flyers on a forum (flyertalk.com) that I subscribe to, the fees are dependent on the first plane you board on that leg of the trip. If it is an AC operated flight, you are okay with 2 free bags. If it is a united flight, then you have to pay the United baggage fees. Therefore, this may vary between your flight down as opposed to your flight back if you have connecting flights. Last year I did the same thing (booking an AC flight on united.com) and I didn't pay any baggage fees, but that may have been before the change in fees?

It depends on the airline that is operating your first flight.

If that airline is UA, you pay the UA baggage fees. If that airline is AC, you pay the AC baggage fees (which, for you, is $0).

Often, this means that you pay for bags in one direction but not the other (since the order of planes is generally the same - assuming a connecting flight). For example, YYC-DEN-MCO; YYC-DEN (and back) is on AC and DEN-MCO (and back) is on UA. Your first flight going is AC (no baggage fees) but your first flight coming home is UA (baggage fees).

ALSO - remember that you check in with the airline that is operating your first flight, regardless of what airline you bought your ticket from. I've seen many people get messed up by this (and I've seen some miss flights, by the time they got to the right check in counter).

Thanks I called air Canada and found out that the flight is being run by Air Canada therefore no fees and I check in through them. It is a direct flight.

Which airline was it AC or WJ?

May have to start checking fares again out of Canada, we usually drive down to Seattle for our Florida flights. I can't beat $250 RT from here. Even factoring in over night hotel it's still way cheaper.

Sue, do you book the overnight hotel on the way to Fl or stay on the way back?

I found flying at night better. We had more time to adjust when we arrived in FL.
