I'm flying American Airlines and on the site it says that under 15 years old you are considered an unaccompanied minor. I'm 14 and my dad bought a regular ticket and flying unaccompanied minor isn't a big priority.

So, I was wondering if anybody's child has flown American Airlines, did they make you change out their ticket for an unaccompanied minor ticket when they saw their ID? or did they not care?:confused3

From what I read it is 12 and under that are unaccompanied minors so you should be ok.

The PP is correct, as long as you are 12, you do not have to an UM.

Reservations For Unaccompanied Minors

Self Travel
Children under 12 years of age must travel with another passenger at least 16 years of age or they will be considered Unaccompanied Minors.
Passengers 12 through 17 years of age may travel independently. Unaccompanied Minor service can also be purchased as an option for passengers 12 through 17 (subject to the same charges and provisions).

To the PP who asked proving your age, it also says this:

AA reserves the right to request documented proof of age for children traveling alone. Please be prepared to provide documentation (birth certificate, driver's license, passport, etc.) upon request.

That's not right. The American website says:

  • Children under 12 years of age must travel with another passenger at least 16 years of age or they will be considered Unaccompanied Minors.
  • Passengers 12 through 17 years of age may travel independently. Unaccompanied Minor service can also be purchased as an option for passengers 12 through 17 (subject to the same charges and provisions).
