Is the UK part of the world showcase at EPCOT really as bad as everyone makes out?

I can't remember from my last trip, i was only 8.

Just wondered really lol, think it'll be interesting to see their take on England.

Well the Scottish part of the UK store was made up of "which tartan are you?", shortbread etc, pretty cheesy but I guess Mexicans would be rolling their eyes at the ponchos and sombreros in which their pavillion sell, can't imagine many going into work wearing those! But hey, the high street here in Edinburgh is full of "buy a kilt for a £10", "trace your ancestry "(for a bit more!!) that's what tourists expect to see, I see Edinburgh as a dynamic international city with a fab world famous festival. Some tourists (who I over heard on the bus today) expect the shortbread tin picture, castles round very corner and a Och Aye the Noo punctuating every sentence. It's a stereotype, but it does give me a laugh every time I go through the UK pavillion, however you can't knock the Rose and Crown for a great view of the fireworks:drinking1

We love going round the shops in the UK at Epcot even if it is only to have a laugh at the prices they charge for the bars of chocolate. The Beatles, in my opinion is something you could miss out but i guess if you haven't been for sometime you should see them preferably with a portion of Fish and Chips. mmmmmm

i like the uk part of epcot if only for the red telephone box....i still miss them ;)

There is nothing "bad" about it.

It is just the stereotypical American view of England. Historic old buildings, pubs, lquaint shops, telephone boxes, nice neat hedges etc etc

but then again every "world" iin the showcase is like that - all the best bits of each country.

Would we really want to see an accurate picture ? - litter, yobs, cctv cameras etc :)

Gosh yes! :rotfl:
We could have gangs of hoodies standing on the corner of the Rose and Crown smoking away throwing their ciggy butts on the floor whilst drinking white lightening, we could have kilted Scotsman lying "pisshed" against the wall of the pub, we could have a welshman wearing a Rugby shirt telling everyone that England is a dump and he only became a teacher to avoid the pits, outside the shop we could have a Big Issue seller and a couple of beggars.
Every half hour we could have the gates opoen and a flood of water come through, and at night crowds of guys in Ben Sherman shirts and girls with loads of makeup and micro skirts on fighting each other to the latest house music.
We need the shop chaning to a row of Chinese, curry and Pizza take-aways to get that Britishness feel.

I think it really needs an Indian restaurant to make it authentic :)

:rotfl: It always makes me want to burst into a ****-er-ney accent like Dick Van **** in 'Maori Pawpins'. :lmao:

Oops, obviously my last post was not intended to be mistaken for any rude words.

I was just going to say that its not bad its just very cliche and a quaint version of England, its the jumble of different periods of architecture that makes me giggle, theres a minuture Windsor castle, a tudor cottage, cobbled streets etc, its a charicature of classic England.....but now I've read other's comments I agree that the above things would make it much more accurate lol:rotfl: What i do like about it is its the only place in the World that i can get a malibu, seriously walking into the Rose and Crown is like walking into the Twilight Zone with the uk cast members behind the bar, you half expect Peggy Mitchell to pop up from somewhere!

I do have to say the R&C is authentic, poor pub grub at its worst :(

We had a really nice meal at the R&C on our last trip.

Don't think much of the fish and chips from the takeaway fish n chip shop though.

The bit that gets me is that often times Northern Ireland(not even our flag) is not represented at all, while Ireland which is not part of the UK is!

If I recall correctly that the governments of each country has a share in the costs of world showcase it appears to be a very good deal for the Southern Irish tourist board
