Hi

This is my first post I have been on this site before but I usually use a UK one.

I really need some hlp planning my May 2010 wedding. We are hoping to get married at the wedding pavillion but I have no idea where to start! I have been to WDW many times and it has always been the place where I wanted to get married.

I'm so confused with everything at the moment, i've been on the disney wedding website but i'm still none the wiser. I'm not sure whether to book direct with disney or go through someone like virgin and First choice and let them do it all for me.

We are looking at having 20 guests to the ceremony and then going on somewhere in the evening for dinner - I dont want a big formal recpetion, just a nice meal somewhere. I am also currently pregnant at the moment so by the time the wedding comes around we will have a 13 month old with us as well as 4 other children so we will need to cator for them as well.

I am also stuck on the wedding invitations I cant seem to find anything that I like - I think I am a bit picky!

If anyone could offer me any tips on planning a wedding i would be very grateful.

Thanks!!

Hi there :)

I don't actually have any tips for you, sorry  But I'm interested in seeing the replies because I'm also hoping to be a May 2010 bride, and I'm from the UK!

It is really confusing trying to figure out what to do isn't it? I was going to ask the same question about booking it direct with Disney or going through a travel agent...

Hope you get the answers you're looking for anyway & good luck!

HI :)

The best thing you can do is to book a day off work, put the kettle on and spend at least 8 hours reading this forum :rotfl:

There is soooooooooooo much info on here its unreal !

When you are at a year out you will be able to speak with someone at Disney, but for now you probably want to read some planning journals on here to get a rough idea, this is how we decided on venues etc...

I think going with disney direct and not through a travel agent is best as you get the more personal disney touch, however there are brides on here that have gone the travel agent route and everything has been fine.

As for you wedding breakfast, there are loads of resteraunts to choose from and they will cater for all of your guests needs.

There are alot of brides on here who have only had a small number of guests and their weddings have been just as perfect as those wedding with loads of guests. We are only having 28 guests.

You have loads of options.

Congratulations and happy reading :surfweb: :rotfl:

Hi from another UK bride.

It is very confusing at first and the best thing you could do is probably spend hours searching these boards, you'll be able to find loads of answers to your questions :thumbsup2 Have you been on the Disney weddings wishbook yet? This is where I started, it just gives you some idea of prices and locations etc. I think you can call Disney 18 months from your wedding, which will be next month, right? Then they can give you loads of information on locations and stuff available.

And, I don't want to rain on your parade, but you can only book escape wedding packages through the UK tour operators, Wishes weddings have to be booked direct through Disney. And with 20 guests it looks like you'll be having a wishes, as escape weddings have a maximum of 18 guests.

Hope this helps :thumbsup2

Ha ha we wrote the same things at the same time! Great minds...

If it is 20 guests you will have to have a wishes wedding, even the 13month old will count as a guest - anything with a heartbeat gets counted!! But....if you do have a wishes wedding then children under 3 dont pay for any food so you can get away without spending a fortune on little ones.

You can find out so much info on this forum also worth checking out www.magicalkingdoms.com and www.mouseweddings.com

As for invites I made my own as couldnt find anything I liked in my budget but I found a brilliant company that hand make cards www.weddingparaphernalia.com
they will make up anything you want then send you out a sample (for a small cost)

Good luck with all the planning, you will have so much fun!

I think the other girls have pretty much covered everything, but 'hello' from me!!

Just the 8 hours?????? Crikey and the rest....I'm just glad I am in Uni so i can skive off lots!

Anyway, just wanted to add my congratulations, I am hopefully going to be a May 2010 Disney bride too.....you will find everything and more about DFTW on this site....what the girls don't know about a Disney wedding is not worth knowing! :)

congrats from another uk bride, well past bride now as I wasmarried 2 months ago at disney.

You will find everything out on here! I had a wishes wedding and there was only 18 of us, we found it better to have a wishes wedding as I got more freedom in what I wanted to do.

As fro Invites I did my own as I run a wedding stationery business so I designed my own disney invites

you can book escape packages rfom the uk direct with disney, we started with one of these direct with them. I had heard bad things about booking via a travel agent so didnt even look into that

Congratulations from another UK bride. I also had a wishes wedding but only had 12 guests.

Have fun planning.

Not married yet (August 2010 bride!) but following from what Sarah said, I would definitely book direct with Disney, be it Escape or Wishes. I haven't heard very good things from the people who have gone with Travel Agents.

Going direct means you cut out the middle man, and get a straight answer to your questions.

Hi there, congratulations!

I am, like many others, booking direct with Disney and finding it much easier. I also love speaking to the people at Central Reservations to sort out my room bookings - the cast member I got was so excited for me! You don't generally get that from a UK travel agent ;)

We are having three kids at our wedding - my niece (3 at the time) plus my two nephews, who will be 2 and 18 months.

I would also advise spending loads of time reading the boards!! I lurked for a year before booking our wedding.

Hi,

Welcome, from another UK Escapes bride......

I would defiantly book direct with Disney. I wish i had originally. I booked through a travel agent in the UK. I was looking at Virgin but decided to go with another one. I thought it was a good deal and that i could get everything in one package. E.g Wedding, hotel, flights and tickets. But...two months ago we lost everything because the company went bust. Since re-booking direct with Disney we have had so much better treatment. Plus if you book with a travel agent in the UK you don't get the Disney wedding reservation number and they wont give it to you, so if anything does go wrong its difficult to sort it out. Trust me i know.

Any questions you have ask away. Everyone on here is so friendly.:thumbsup2

Hi, welcome to the board! We booked our wedding through Thomas Cook Signature. You select the location and time. Once we had booked we dealt directly with Disney in choosing flowers e.t.c. There are loads of people who have just booked directly with disney too.
We only had five people at our wedding, but it was a lovely day. If you need any help let me know.
These boards are great for wedding planning, I only found this after my wedding but you'll find it becomes a bit addictive :rotfl2:

We booked our escape wedding through Virgin (married at Disney Wedding Pavillion Oct 2008 what a magical day), Virgin wher alright but we got most of our questions and extra arrangemnets for our day sorted out by dealing direct with the Disney Wedding Co-Ordinator assigned to us.

Hiya, welcome to the family on Dis and congratulations!

We are planning a December 2009 wedding and all our contact with Disney so far has been great. We are booking everything ourselves and once you get into the swing of it is is really easy.

We are going for an Escape wedding as there will only be 11 of us in total, but a lot of the info applies to whatever package you have.

I called Disney at 18 months out to ask a few questions and they were more than helpful. I wanted to double-check things like payment options. I called again a couple of months ago and they sent me an email with loads of info and a file to download.

As the others have said, grab a cup of coffee, turn the phones off, ignore the door bell and read to your hearts content. Planning journals are a brilliant source of info. I started reading everything in january this year (so practically 2 years away from our planned date) and I'm so glad I did. Some of the things I had thought of doing weren't possible and there were loads of others I hadn't thought of.

I started looking at prices of things this year to give me an idea of what we should be looking for next year. A good example is flights. They have gone from £325 to over £600 over the year so now I know what is a good price and a bad one when we come to book them next year.

It also gave me plenty of time to look at different options when one of the ideas just would work. I wanted to ship my dress out to a bridal store in Orlando to save checking it into the hold of the plane. I found out that it would have cost me customs and duty in the US (even though I had bought it in the UK) and then the same to ship it back again. So, we then started to look at flights where I could take the dress as hand luggage. That restricted the airlines we could fly with due to their weight allowance - I have one of the Maggie Sottero Capri Royale dresses and it's a lot of dress!

I'm so glad I started to plan and research when I did or it might have been a bit of a panic if I had made the wrong choices too late.

These boards are a mine of information (although it can be a bit confusing at first) but everyone is so friendly and helpful so don't be frightened to post any questions - even if they seem obvious or daft!

Have fun :goodvibes :goodvibes
