Uhm....Bahamas is now requiring vaccinations for all passengers over 12..

Some people, some cruise lines, accepted future cruise credit, in excess of what they paid, instead of cash refunds. Some say "sales are through the roof" because people need to book before they expire.
I’m would guess the majority of bookings are booked with future cruise credits.

DeSantis has no say over laws in the Bahamas. They are the ones requiring a fully vaxed ship.

DeSantis is preventing fully vaxed ships sailing out of Florida by making it illegal to require vaccination status from their
Cruise guests.

Disney only needs fully vaccinated ships (of those eligible to be vaccinated) if they want to go somewhere like the Bahamas that requires it. Unfortunately, their private island is in the Bahamas.

Right now NCL can sail fully vaccinated ships out of Florida because they are suing DeSantis and a judge said they could proceed for now as though they have won the suit. So NCL can stop in the Bahamas. Disney would have to join the NCL suit to be able to do the same or risk being fined by the state of Florida for each person they required to show their vaccination status.
Disney doesn’t have to go the Bahamas they could just sail to Cozumel.

That’s true and I’m wondering if that’s what they are trying to figure out. They are mapping it out to see if there is somewhere that would take them they could make it to and back in three days.

The other factor is that Castaway is their signature destination. Removing Castaway would promt far more cancellations than requiring vaccines would.

Can they reach Cozumel and back to PC on a three night cruise?

Royal does it on a 4 night. I am not thinking they could do it on a 3 night.

Also I would say that would be a extremely dramatic change that has zero relation to weather. Have to think there would be tons of upset people asking for their money back.

That's if Cozumel even had room for them.

It wouldnt be as bad as well if Disney could make it up. Issue is they have cut back on all the activities on board.

If they could do a deck party every night, theme at dinner every night, fireworks every night, ect then maybe they get away with it.

It's approximately 815 nautical miles PC to Cozumel. Typically a cruise ship can cover 480 miles in 24 hours. It would be tight.

So they need to go 1630 miles which equates to 81.5 hours of travel.

If they depart at 6pm and arrive back at 6am that leaves you 2.5 hours in port if you have no slow down and do a fast and furious parking move lol.

Not for me. The only reason many of us are ok with the reduced amenities was the fact that they made it a double dip. Remove Castaway completely without reducing the cost, and I would have to give a real hard look at the value proposition.

Except there is no way to make it to Cozumel and back on a 3 day cruise (probably not even a 4 day)
If they leave from Miami they can. I did a NCL cruise in 2016 which was a 4 night Miami, Day at Sea, Cozumel, Day at Sea Miami

That's my point though. If they drop Castaway they would have to go way over the top with everything else which Disney isn't at this point. People would be cancelling left and right.

DH and I are booked in January 2022 and will sail if DCL sails. At this point I don't really care I just want to be on the boat and get room service and sit on my verandah and enjoy a little Disney Magic. And actually we love Cozumel even better than Castaway. We adore Mexico in general.

We even fly across the country for this privilege we must be crazy!

1. Disney has been trying to avoid public ports due to the pandemic.
2. Cozumel can't hold a candle to Castaway Cay.

Without Castaway Cay, DCL is just not worth the money, especially now.
It wasn't meant to be funny. Disney does cruises to Mexico that do not stop in the Bahamas, and Nassau is a public port. I personally find Castaway boring and I can't stand Nassau. Whether it's "worth it" is subjective. There are a lot of people that won't find cruising "worth it" for many months to come for a variety of reasons. A lot of people didn't think DCL was "worth it" prior to Covid. If you don't believe me do a thread search on here.
