HELP to all you Disney people who can give me some kind of comparison.

Planning our first trip to DL this July. DD17, DN14, DNfW10 and their mom.

I've read and read for hours about the different hotels and why each person likes such. Are any directly on the Monorail stops like WDW?

Using the 3 park hotels - can you give me a WDW equivilant? (ie, I assume that the DGC would be like Grand Floridian?)

I have a whole new respect for people coming to WDW and not knowing anything. I just realized how much I take it for granted that Disney is my back yard and we go all the time.

The Grand Californian was designed byt he architect who did the Wl and the AKL. It is in the craftsman style and is nice on the outside and beautiful on the inside. The rooms are the same saize as at the WL and AKL. The hotel is essentailly "in" the California Adventure park in that is is right at the edge and has it's own entrance. It would be as if the Beach Club was part of the France pavilion. From our room in the Grand Californian we could be in DCA in a minute to a minute and a half. The room decore is nice in a slight Frank Lloyd Wright style.
The Disneyland hotel is 3 older towers and compares with the Contemporary allthough I find the gorunds at the DLH prettier. The rooms are (in general) largeand are decorated like a cross between the GF and well...Disneyland. They are slightly Victorian and formal but have lots of Disneyland referneces in them. The rooms have no balconies but the sliding doors open agains a railing like the second floor rooms of the older buildings at the Polynesian.
The Paradise Pier hotel is a tower hotel that compares with the 7 hotels in the WDW hotel plaza. It has a beach theme with rooms that are sort of like the Beach Club. This hotel doesn't really have any grounds to it but one side over looks DCA and has some really awesome views.
Hoep this helps. If you have other questions, just ask. :)

None of the hotels are actually what you would think of as "monorail stops" -
The DLH is closest of the three to the monorail stop in Downtown Disney.

The monorail goes thru GCH itself- but no stops there - you would need to walk a bit thru Downtown Disney to get to the monorail. (or just exit thru DCA and cross the plaza into DL would be faster!)

For PPH it is easiest to walk to GCH and exit into Downtown Disney and exit into DCA from the GCH special exit. PPH did have its won entrance gate into park that is now closed (saves on staffing and it was not easy to find/use)

There is a cool "virtual tour" feature on the Dsineyland web site that shows the beuty of GCH and a peek at the special entrance into DCA

then click on "virtual tour" on the R side of page.
