We signed up to make blankets for Project Linus for Disney's Give-A-Day Program. We have to make 2 blankets each. I let the boys pick out a fleece for each blanket. I am making the No-Sew fringed fleece blankets. So things were going welland we were cranking them out. BUT.....

One of the fabrics is different than the rest! It is very soft/cuddly material that I thought was fleece. I cut it to the correct size, but the edges are just falling apart. It is leaving little lint pieces all over! I haven't cut the fringes, but I think it is going to be a mess! What should I do??? :confused3I hate to waste the material and my son REALLY wants to make/give this blanket- he loves the cuddly material!

Should I go ahead and cut the fringes and just let it be? Should I try to sew some kind of an edge? I do have a sewing machine, but have only used it like 3 times! I would need really good instructions if someone has an idea that involves sewing! I don't even know if that is allowed with Project Linus. Can you sew a straight edge on a piece of fleece and call it a blanket???

Help me please!

Can't be sure what to suggest except to tell you that the linusidaho.org site had the most suggestions I have seen on finishing fleece blankets. Look on the left margin for the fleece blanket finish suggestions link. You may want to reconsider using this material if you think there could be a choking hazard for little ones if the material falls apart that easily. Maybe I read too much into your description...

Something similar happened to me also, with the super soft fleece. I put the blanket in the dryer and the fuzz came off. I cut the fringe (I just finished it with the picket fence cut and didn't tie it) and then did the dryer again. That seemed to stop the fuzz. Is yours unraveling? or is it the chunks of fuzz?

You could use another material to enclose the edges so they do not unravel.

I am going to pick out the fabric today for our blankets. Thank you for this posting. I will be sure to ask the sales clerk for material that does not unravel nor pill up or shed. :flower3:

There is something called quilt binding that you can buy at the Fabric store. It is found on those little racks beside the thread. You can just sew that aroung the edge.

I saw a pattern on the national Linus site that was sewn fleece, so that should work for you. It had some binding edge thing, as others have mentioned.

The material seems like small pieces of fleece coming off. I think I will definetly have to finish the edge. Thanks for the link to the Idaho Linus! I will look at those a little closer!
