uh-oh...it's a "Spare the Air" night

Our local air quality board calls for a "spare the air" day when smog gets bad in the Bay Area. In the winter, it also calls for bans on the use of your fireplace when the air is stagnant. I didn't know that duraflame logs were included in the ban.

eek! Do you suppose they have feds driving around in hybrids looking for smoking chimneys? If so, we're in trouble!

Yep. They have inspectors driving around and your neighbors can also call to report you. I looked into it for my dad who likes to burn fires in his wood stove. You get a warning letter on your first offense and a fine of several hundred up to several thousand dollars for subsequent offenses. My dad has the hotline number posted next to his phone and he calls every evening. If it's a Spare The Air night, he doesn't start a fire.

You'll probably want to douse the Duraflame as soon as you can!
