I must be the only who didn't care too much for it. It was so hyped, maybe I was expecting too much. Studio 60 - now THAT'S gonna be a good show!

NEW YORK (AP) - America may be falling for America Ferrera, the star of ABC's "Ugly Betty," an underdog that has become the most-watched new series of the fall television season so far.

The comedy, which stars Ferrera as a plain Queens girl who pushed her way into the fashion world, was seen by 16.1 million people in its ABC debut on Thursday night, according to Nielsen Media Research.

All but about a half-dozen of the 24 new series the broadcast networks are introducing this fall have made it onto the air already, and so far "Ugly Betty" stands at No. 1.

The show did it without the advantage of a strong program airing ahead of it. Shows like "Shark" and "Brothers & Sisters" that have had strong debuts were helped because they followed "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and "Desperate Housewives.""Ugly Betty" opened the night at 8 p.m. ET.

It was ABC's largest audience in the time period with a scripted show since "Matlock" in 1995, according to Nielsen Media Research.

ABC, owned by The Walt Disney Co., had some inkling that "Ugly Betty," an American version of a popular Spanish-language telenovela, was attracting attention even before the first episode aired. It had originally scheduled the show for Friday nights - one of the slowest nights on TV - before switching it to Thursday over the summer.

OK, so I like the show, but this being the highest rated show of the fall season? I don't know about that. I watched the show b/c there was nothing on that night on TV except a game on ESPN. ABC used the fact that there will be no other new show on the same night to compete with Ugly Betty. Smart or what?

Ohhhhh I was on the edge of my seat tonight :woohoo: I was sure it had to work out.

Man that neighbor :furious: what a meanie! Geez!!

Is Vanessa Wilson looking really REALLY old? Or is it just me? She is so sinister! I want to see her get demoted or something :rotfl:

I liked tonight's show, figured it would work out somehow but I hope it doesn't get to be the same kind of idea every week. I like the sister & the neighbor, they were funny, stereotyped but funny.

I think they have to keep Vanessa Williams in that position just to keep things going between her & Betty's boss. Her assistant is almost as bad as she is.

Wooooooooooooooops I had HOUSE on the brain

I Tivo'd this week's episode because I liked the pilot enough.

One thing I did like - they did try to explain why she put up with all the demeaning things. Quite simply, she NEEDS this job. She's like us - we all need the job or we'd all move to WDW full time right?! She put up with the crap so she could pay her rent. I sympathise with her.

I love, love Ugly Betty! I think it's great. One of the best I've seen in a LONG time.

I was looking forward to Studio 60 too but I just could not get into it. I tivo'ed 2 episodes but couldn't make it thru the first one. I thought the promos looked good but for some reason just couldn't follow. :confused3

the thing I like about this is that my DD who is 10 and I can watch it together and both enjoy it. I have tried to watch the shows she likes, Hannah Montana, Zach and Cody, but this is the first one I really enjoy.

Anyone still watching this one? I laughed so much during the last episode about the holiday shoot. :rotfl2:

Thats so funny...I just got done watching her in "Real Women have Curves" (a very good movie). I TiVo Betty every week and I'm still lovin it!

Yup....love that show.

Though her eyebrows drive me nuts, lol.

I've been watching Ugly Betty! I really like it, it's so camp. I like the Broadway aspect of it too, the near dancelike movement of groups and the makeup. I wish they would break into song once in a while, I think it would add even more depth.

I really enjoy this show. We all do over here. But we always tivo it and watch it the next day. It cracks us up. I think the nephew is hilarious. And I dont get why she doesnt pluck the brows a bit :confused3 Could make a huge difference. I'm looking forward to the halloween episode where one of the guys dresses up like Betty.

I :lovestruc Betty too! America Ferrera is my new love. She doesn't look like that for real, yet they do a good job to make her look unattractive.

America was also in a Disney Channel movie called Gotta Kick it Up. She played one of the girls from a HS dance team who is coached by the character played by Susan Egan(the former Broadway Belle).

Still watching and still loving it. I loved this past week's ep where her ex-BF decided to sing "Beauty and the Beast" to her in order to get Betty back. That's true love there man. :rotfl2:

I also really liked the episode where her sister did a 'makeover' on her. If that's the kind of makeover her sister's giving, I don't think I want one. :happytv: :rotfl2: :rotfl:
