My DH and I never had a staph infection prior to adopting our kids. When we were still in Russia, our DS came down with staph in his nose and was hospitalized for 4 days. We came home in early November 2001 and on NYE that year, my DH was very sick. He had this horrible welt under his arm. He finally acquiesced and went to the ER a few days into 2002. He had a horrible case of staph and was hospitalized for 4 days. When they released him, he had to remain on IV antibiotics for 7 days.... every 6 hours, I got to play nurse to him to give him his antibiotics. The middle of the night IV was the worst.
He was cured, then our DS got it again, then my DH, then me. The day I got it, DH had an appointment with an infectious disease dr in town who confirmed that I also had staph. (Like I didn't already know that.
) He told me he didn't like that my dr prescribed an expensive drug for me, as he would have prescribed Keflex, but either one would do the job.
We didn't like the answers that we were given by this dr, so we made an appointment with an ID dr in Philadelphia. She gave us an antibiotic salve to put into our noses 2X per day for 5 days. She wanted all 4 of us to use it, including DD who never had staph, in case she is the carrier.
Since then, we've had cases off and on. Most recently, DH had one on his toe last week and started an antibiotic. His is gone, and DS gets it on his leg. He's almost cured and lo and behold, I have one under my arm.
Does anyone know how to get rid of this demon once and for all? We know how to get rid of it without hospitalization, but it keeps resurfacing every now and then. Still, thankfully, DD has not had it, ever. Maybe she's the primary carrier.
The only good thing we've been told about this is that it is an Asian strain, not an American strain, so it is easily treated with normal antibiotics.
Any advice?
