Thanks for the info! I'm still a little hesitant to do this as I'm guessing we might only have an option to upgrade rooms choices if our room category isn't available. It's strange because I called at 7 am on the nose this am and the room type we booked was not available for the discount so we would either have had to upgrade, downgrade, or switch hotels. All of which is more complicated if we have to switch discounts too I'm guessing. What did you end up doing?
I booked POR royal room with pool view online, so just a discount on our first night (and the free 7th day). I confirmed with a Live Chat CM that it can be changed to the new discount in March subject to availability. She said it may or may not be able to be applied online depending on "eligibility". When I go to My Reservations and click Modify, one of the choices is to check out new special offers, so I'm hopeful I can do that. And hopefully a royal room category is available at that time. Can't wait to see.
