yesterday i lost the key to my 2008 ford fusion. i didnt realize it was gone until after i got off of work. I work for wally world. i searched for 4 hours yesterday. i also had several people helping me look today. i just had to spend 300 dollars of vacation money to get a new key coded. now im worried if we will even get to go to disney. everything is for reservation is paid for, just need gas and spending money, and money for a motel there and back. have 1000 put back. i told dh that i am taking out a loan if i cant come up with more money. this makes me sick. this will be the first time anyone in my family has been to the world. this is probably the only year we will get to go too. just had to complain:sad2:

I am so sorry! I would give it a couple more days to show up if you can. $300 is a lot of money to lose from your vacation budget :(.

Sorry that happened to you! Did you only have one key to the car??

I had no idea a new key would cost that much...hope everything works out for you!

:grouphug: sorry to hear about your bad luck. I feel your frustration

It's no consolation, but this happened to me twice, so after...ahemmm misplacing the spare key, I finally had to get a new one. Don't remember the cost excactly.

You'll find a lot of people on here will advise you against taking out a loan.
Can you do a few nights of babysitting or such or can your kids do some stuff to help out elderly neighbors???
You'll find a lot of good ideas to save/make a few extra$ here on the budget board.

I hope you have a magical trip, no matter what!

ouch
i don't blame you for venting - that must really hurt!

so now, take a deep breath, and ask a certain saint (it's so unexpected, but it really has worked many more times than i could possibly count - and you have nothing to lose trying, right?:))
if you don't still find them, consider finding ways to make money as notaprincess suggested (and maybe sell old gold, etc)....and focus on how fortunate you are to actually be going on a wonderful vacation, to a fabulous place, with your beautiful family - does life get any better than that? :cloud9:

, I hope that you are able to still take your trip to WDW and have a great time. How you pay for your trip is your business and don't let anyone make you feel bad about it:headache:. I hope that plenty of money making opportunities come your way and your find your old key:goodvibes

Just as an FYI, if you have AAA gold, they will reimburse you $100 for a key. This happened to me back in the fall. If you have the higher level AAA, I believe it's $200 or so.

That stinks! DH bought a used Toyota Corolla about a year ago and the dealer only gave us one key. We always have had a spare set, but when we looked into what a new one would cost (Toyota dealer said $400) we said forget it and he just has to be very careful with it!
I'm sorry about the vacation money. Have you looked into online surveys like Sunshine Rewards? Doing those surveys is a great way to earn some extra cash for spending money. Good Luck!

I would also call a couple of Ford Dealerships about the cost of a new key. $300 seems to be a LOT, even for a fancy key with a transponder in it. If you have a good relationship with your dealer and your salesman is still at the dealership you also might want to call him/her up and see if they can get it done cheaper. You might also be able to find a replacement key online and then just have them program it for you. I would ask for both prices as you may save money on just the programming (which should only take a few minutes).

Good luck!

I am so sorry for the situation.

I was traveling in India with my company and I left my keys in the safe in the hotel in 2006. It was a used car and they only gave me one key.... I had to have my car towed to the dealership and a new key made 2003 Dodge Neon... $200. Towing was free with AAA.

Then, two years ago, I lose the rental keys to a Ford Explorer in Disney World. That's right, Disney World. I have no idea where they went. One minute they were there and the next minute they weren't. It was at the Polynesian and the staff couldn't care less. To only make this better, I found this little fun fact that the keys were missing as I was leaving to go to the airport home. I had to have the car towed to a different Enterprise Car Rental as we got ours at the airport, but the tower could not fit in the parking area - $300 WITH AAA. Then a new key- $350, then a cab ride to the airport, $75 dollars, and I missed my flight. $100 for a hotel room, $10 dollar more for my car additional day at my airport, and God bless Southwest because they didn't charge me anything to leave the next day. This was an expensive lesson and I have learned to stay ON property with NO car. Can I just tell you we did this with an almost two year old? While we were staying at the Poly, my mother was paying, so we don't have tons of money.

Nobody can judge you for how you get there unless you let them. :grouphug:

Just an FYI, my local Ace hardware store has out a sign they now do replacement car keys that have a chip in them. I have no clue what it costs!

Check with a locksmith. About two months ago I was able toget a second key with the chip in it and it had to be coded, they only charged $30.

Don't know where you live and realize that gas since it keeps going up will take a big junk of that money but I want to say as far as spending money don't worry about having a lot. There is so much at Disney as is that you really don't need to add on all the extra's and still have a fabulous time. so if you are trying to save for BBB or a character meal etc, you don't need them to have a great time.

And as far as for the kids $50 per each one will buy them a couple nice souvenirs and that is all they really need. My kids don't spend a lot and will look around and not buy their souvenir until they are really sure and near the end of the trip.

Pressed pennies area a great souv. and easy to save for. I just started putting quarters in a cup when I emptied pockets and before I knew it I had enough for them to do many pennies during our stay and it was painless to save for. And the kids started looking for the pennies to save, my DS liked the super shiny ones and my DD liked older ones so they started checking change and the house!

Good luck, and do check the hardware store next time they are able to make some of the electronic keys and it is a lot cheaper. Not that I have ever lost my keys and know from experience :rolleyes1

I'm sorry this happened, but you can make up the money. Eat what you have, cut back tons, maybe sell something, or babysit. But, $300 isn't too much money to come up with, and you can do it!

I do know how you feel. I went back to work when DD was 11 weeks old. Somehow in my exhaustion, I backed up the car and hit the side of the garage, thus canceling my entire pay for the past two weeks. Sometimes things happen that really suck, but you can rise above it. Good luck and enjoy your trip!

Our family LOVES pressed pennies. We keep our pressed penny change in a mini M&M container and carry it into the parks with us so I don't have to hunt for change when we want to press a penny. I heard that Mentos gum containers will hold the pennies once they are pressed.

Home Depot also does it for a fraction of what it costs at the dealership.
I had no idea anyone other than a dealership could make these type of keys. Thanks for the info!

My Ford dealer wanted $150 for a new key to my van. I looked everywhere for it... I put off getting it since we had two keys. I found it 3 or 4 months later under the mat in the back seat!

That was awful however these things happen. Sometimes we have to take the bitter pill. Forgive yourself u r human.:grouphug:
