I just got off the phone with my son who is stationed in germany. he said he got a letter from his Grandmother (my MIL)
She said to him to stop showing off! He doesn't need a faster car, the nicest clothes or MORE RANK!
What the heck is up with that??? Such nice support and love, huh?
My son loves cars, especially fast foreign ones. Just because he talks about them doesn't mean he's going to get one...it's just an interest. And is there anything wrong with dressing nice????
And more RANK???? Hello...he's talking about his career here!
OHHHHHHHH she makes me sooooo mad!!!!

OK, I feel somewhat better now...just wait until I tell his Dad, he's not going to be happy at all!

Thanks for letting me blow off steam!

BTW, last time she talked to him was in November before he left for Germany. He also just got a promotion to E-3. Shouldn't she be congratulating him???

oooopppps....here I go again.......I'm going, I'm going!!

 Has she always been like that or is this something new? I get the idea she's pulled this before.
I know it's not the same but tell your son the Dis-er's are proud of him and his promotion. Way to go!

First...thank you, I will pass that along to him ;)

She's always been very negative about everything, especially when it comes to my kids. We lived a mile down the road from them for about 12 years and they would rarely ever go to anything the kids were involved in, yet they would drive over an hour all the time for their daughters kids.

She doesn't care to be around us because we are too loud
:happy2:
we really aren't we're just normal peopl with normal busy lives.

Still tho, she should be encouraging to my son.....even if she has to pretend! LOL

I think that those who serve our contry in ANY capacity are deserving of our love and utmost respect. I know no one is perfect or without fault, and I don't know both sides of the conversation, but I think that the sacrifice they make each day should be respected and appreciated. And I would like to think that my family (MIL included) would be bursting with pride if my DS6 decided to serve his country.

JMHO

Congratulations to your son. If you don't mind my asking, where in Germany is he stationed at? I'm just curious because my dh is over there right now. Germany is an awesome to drive fast cars. If that's what your ds is into, then more power to him!!!
God bless,

God bless,

He's stationed in Bamburg. He's with an Mp company that leaves tomorrow for Irag BUT he's not going because of a knee injury so until that's resolved he stays put! (whew...insert brow wiping smiley here)

Where is you DH at?

First off, congratulations to your son and thanks for all he does to protect and serve his country.

I don't know any guy who isn't interested in cars. You know the saying "the only difference between men and boys is the size of their toys" ;) .

Your MIL sounds a bit like mine in that they're always looking for trouble were there isn't any.

Take care.

A grandmother who is not proud of her grandson advancing in rank in the US military? Sounds like she's not a rational person and that everything she says should be taken with a HUGE grain of salt! 99.99999% of American grandmothers would be bursting with pride and boring all their friends by bragging about him all the time.

She's not, by any chance, from Minnesota, is she? I ask because in the Lake Woebegone Days books by Garrison Keillor (set in Minnesota), the main character's parents always feel it their duty to "bring him down a notch", lest he become too prideful. Does she come from that tradition, where pride is a major sin?

nope...she's just a..... :rolleyes1
it's just sad...my son was pretty upset about it and said he probably isn't going to write back for a while because he just can't.

Mine is deployed to Kaiserslautern. He is part of the air medical staging unit there. I'm so proud of him!!!

Congrats to your son and please thank him for me!
Because of these brave soldiers, we are able to sleep safely at night.

PS - Bad, bad Gma....tell her to 'get a life'!! :sad2:

God Bless the USA!

We were at Ramstein/Vogelweh a couple of weeks ago. We go there to shop every now and then because we are at a small base. We were also stationed at Keesler before we came here. It's a small military world, eh?:wave2:

Where is that in relation to Bamburg? Since he can't perform right now as an MP he's a driver for the major and Sgt. Major and such. he drives them up to a training area about an hour away. Last time he was there he played "patient" for a medivac unit. I wonder if its the same place. He said it was pretty cool flying around in a helicopter.

Its amazing how many bases we have in Germany!

Maybe we can arrange a meet for them some time. has he ever mentioned some big indoor waterpark?

Wow it is really small world!! Bamburg is where my DS is stationed too!! I guess I should say was stationed because he is now in Iraq, I am so glad your DS is still in Bamburg. Lets hope that they all get back before your DS would have to leave!!

As for you D-M-I-L, just let it roll off (easy for me to say) I am finding since my DS has been gone, many people are showing their "true colors" so to speak.

When did he leave for Iraq? What does she do and what unit is she with? My DS knows quite a few people over there. I wonder if he knows him...
