In the past they have been kept for disabled passengers.
they are the closest seats in the cabin, some people find them to close, but if you are travelling as a family they are great for keeping an eye on the children. They don't have luggage bins above them but they have an extra shelf by the side.
On night flights, no disturbance of people walking in front of your seats.
9 and 10 are Ok, unless you have people sitting at the bar chatting on the night flight.
I would definitely go for 6A/K - best UC seats in my opinion, for the reasons Obi stated. They also feel more private, since you have nobody in front of you and the tall "seat pod divider" behind you.
We have seats 6a & k, 7a & k and 8k on the way out (Jan 2008), unfortunately 6a & k were already booked for the return flight, so we have 7a & k, 8 9 and 10K.
I'm hoping that our girls will get some sleep on the way home, the lady at virgin picked our seats for us but I think she did a good job
We are SOOO excited, we haven't flown UC before but DH reckons there will be no going back!!!

I'm going out PE so it'll be interesting to see what I think as it's been 2 years since I last went PE.
For me UC is the best deal going for the money, I'm never that convinced about PE though.
Family and I went economy in July so it'll be a good comparison for PE I reckon.
I'm afraid DH is correct.

In my opinion, they are only best if you are travelling with someone or as a family. I always make sure to try and get 6A/6K when we travel UC as a family, as they are perfect seats to have my two youngest children next to each other and away from annoying other passengers! However, if travelling alone, I always avoid 6A/6K as I find them too close together and would feel less comfortable than further back where it is more private.
I used to completely agree. In terms of value-for-money PE used to be, in my opinion, poor. However, I was very impressed by the "new" PE and loved the experience we had on our flight to LAX a few weeks ago. The new purple leather seats are wonderfully comfortable and the new cushion foot rests which the cabin crew hand out are great and a much improvement on the old ones used on the LGW planes. I must admit that I now find it more difficult to justify our family trips in UC, as the new PE is top notch (the only exception being night flights where UC is definitely worth it for the bed).

From what you said I guess we probably think along the same lines regarding the older style PE.
I'd be keen to try the newer style from what you say as it sounds a good half way house and value for money.
The PE v economy debate is always an interesting one for me.
As I said previously we travelled out economy in July and that was on miles and even then I didn't think the PE price was worth it in the context of another trip or a longer stay with the exception of some of the excellent offers that appear occasionally.
It's good to know that a more attractive option should be available to MCO.
