UBER question

I have never used Uber, but we are thinking of using one to get there from our rental home on our trip.
do you know how difficult it is to get an UBER at opening & then again at closing?(how difficult is it finding YOUR uber? is there a place they pull up?)
do you have an idea of the cost for an under 2 mile trip?
we have 6 adults, 2 ecv's & a service dog.. do we need 2 vehicles? (I know in some other cities there are choices for large vehicles)

Go to their web site and enter your locations for an estimate. I think you’ll need 2.

I'm not sure there are Ubers that are equipped to take ECVs. They're just people's personal cars. You'll have no problem getting an Uber at opening and closing. You'll definitely need multiple vehicles.

If you're going to need space for an ECV, here's what you should do:

- Request an Uber XL (SUV)
- Then, as soon as the ride is accepted, call (not text) the driver and tell him/her you'll need to load an ECV. I don't believe drivers are required to take these, so you might have to try a couple before you find someone willing to help with one. If a driver is not willing to help load/doesn't have space, the ride can be canceled without penalty.

Same thing regarding the service dog. You should call your driver and tell him/her you have one.

As far as an ECV, there really isn't anything in concrete. I'd say it's up to the individual driver. But you'd need UberXL, it would have to be stowable (my dad's 'disassembled' and could be put in the back of a minvan), and I'd def be prepared to load/unload it without the driver's assistance.

I've had Yellow Cabs attempt to refuse my daughter's service dog at John Wayne. Luckily, there was a police officer standing right there, and before I could say anything, he stepped in and explained to the driver he did have to take the dog. Then the driver tried to tell us the dog had to go in the trunk (the officer had to contain his laughter.) Officer told him no, the dog rides with the girl. He gave us his card and said if the driver gave us any grief, call him.

That said, be prepared to load and unload the ECVs. How far are you traveling?

I'm sorry, it's not really funny, but I admit I gave a little chuckle over that, too. Reminds me of that politician (don't remember who) who admitted to tying their dog's crate to the roof of the car on family trips and said the dog 'enjoyed it'.

There is a dedicated pick up/drop off zone on Harbor. You'll definitely need two vehicles in the Uber XL class. Those will be suvs or mini vans.

You can download the Uber app and get cost estimates. Cost will vary based on time of day...we paid around $10 per trip going between DL and the Hilton Convention Center which is about a mile away.

the ECV's can be broken down . when we did use a cab ( in key west) it was just a regular car, & we put it in the trunk.
re: guide dog, my daughter in law will be a badger all over the driver if they give her a hassle about her service dog. she has the laws on this on "speed dial."

ok, so we get dropped off & picked up on Harbor? did i read there is a place over by the restaurants at downtown disney? (guess i should also look at a google map)

does anyone have a guess how LONG we would have to wait for an UBER in morning & at park closure?

we could just take the RV, but I think that would be a pain having to walk/ride from the parking garage, as I have not seen a tram that takes ecv;s

any other suggestions?

We've never waited more than 5-7 minutes for an UberX either coming from Motel6 Maingate nor going from Harbor pick up area. This is your preferred drop if you are going straight into the parks as it's closest to the Esplanade. With the DTD pick up area you have to walk through all of DTD (which is fun, too) before you get to the Esplanade.

Technically, the Uber/Lyft DTD pick up has been moved outside of the DTD parking area. But if I were you, since you have special circumstances, I'd call Disney and see if they allow disabled drop and pick up from the old area by ESPN Zone. Again, if you use this one you'll be walking through DTD.

Take a gander at Google Earth, you can pull in pretty close.

we plan on having dinner at rainforest & heading to trader sams, so the downtown disney pickup is preferred, closer to those eaterys, I did look at google earth, but still unsure of just where the pick up is.

that's a thought. but, i have seen people use Uber's from hotels & they put their luggage in the trunks ( where else would it go?).. (& what was strange to me, is the driver just popped the trunk , did not budge from front seat & let the riders stuff their suitcases in.....,, now I get that the driver is just not doing anymore than he has too, but if it were MY car, I'd never let someone shove stuff in, with it maybe damaging something.)

we used Uber going back and forth to Knotts a couple times Ordered UberX and had no problems loading ECV. Driver was great each time and helped one of us put the ECV in the back while it was assembled Just two of us lifting it up and putting it in the back of the van behind the backseat.
Worked great. We never waited more than 10 minutes.
