Uber from SNA?

use the app. pick which service you want to use (Uber X, XL, pool (shared ride), or black). GPS enters your pickup destination (check it to be sure it's right) and you enter your drop off destination. Click request and you get an instantaneous response. in the bigger airports, uber can only pick up at certain spots. your driver will contact you to tell you where to meet him/her if you can't be picked up where you are standing.

Have used it on two recent trips, and will only use Uber from now on. It was my husband, daughter (4) and myself. Requested a car, and it came within 10 minutes outside of baggage claim (driver called to confirm location). We installed the carseat, driver loaded luggage, and off we went. Our max cost has been $25, and usually takes 15-17 minutes to and from Best Western/Tropicana area of Harbor. Drivers have never made us feel unsafe, and cars were always way cleaner than my own car! :)

Did you have the car seat with you? We weren't planning on bringing any seats, so curious how that worked.

DH & I used Uber for the first time a month ago for our trip to/from SNA/DL. It was great. 6 minutes for pickup at both places. The fare on the way to the hotel was $20.50 (at the beginning of rush hour, our flight arrived at 3:40 pm on a Wednesday). The fare for the return trip (Saturday afternoon) was just $17.05.

In May our trip may turn into a Daughter (5yo) and Mommy trip only, which would mean flying into SNA (Rather than driving from NorCal). I'm seriously considering buying a light weight carseat to use on the flight and using Uber for our transportation since it is SO much quicker than the Disneyland Express Bus (and still quicker than shared vans).

That's exactly what we did, a lighter weight car seat for travel. It is light enough to carry with one hand, sticking our hand through the back. Very easy.

We're getting a lighter weight car seat for our next trip. But we use car seats for both our kids under 2 on the plane too. The turbulence was so bad that I was happy to spend extra. We use companion tickets on ak air. On longer trips we'll use miles.

Uber gives a cost estimate in the app.

We will only use Lyft/Uber now! I prefer Lyft as it's generally cheaper, but both have never been more that $25 from SNA to Disneyland. It takes less than 5 mins for the driver to arrive, they've all been great in our experience, and the drive is SO much faster than a vanshare! Highly recommend! Also, if you know any friends or family that use Lyft or Uber, have them send you their referral code - you get ride credit(s) and they do too!
Maybe I will try Lyft this time, just to access the discount! I have noticed that our Uber drivers tend to also be Lyft drivers. :)
I'm thinking of using Uber for our first trip in Mayl What is the difference between Uber and Lyft? Are they basically the same? And are they as safe? Also, with the referrals, how does that work? So, if my DD25's DF sends us each a referral, then can we send one to each other? And then we can use the two we each get? Or is only one valid?

So how do I know which Uber to pick? It will just be myself and DD25 needing transport, going from SNA to Tropicana, and then back later. Well, and maybe a quick trip to In and Out Burger, see one is about 3 miles down harbor blvd, gotta see what all the fuss is about, lol!

They're basically the same, but in our experience, Lyft has been cheaper. Both websites can give you quotes and have been fairly accurate. We've always felt safe, and the drivers we've had with Uber and Lyft have all been friendly and professional. Many of the ones we've had to/from SNA have been Disney CMs!

With the referral, if both you and your DD sign up with her DFs referral, you'd both get one free ride credit each, and her DF would get two. You then couldn't refer each other as its just a sign up bonus. You could have DD's DF send a referral code to your DD, then she'd refer you so she'd end up with two free ride credits, and you'd have one. You could do this with Lyft and Uber, get ride credits for both and give both a try!

The referral codes vary by city and may change - when I first signed up, it was $30 off your first ride. When DH signed up, he got 5 separate $10 credits.

Uber X should be fine for a party of 2. I took Uber multiple times in CA and the pick up car was always a Prius (with one exception, which was an Acura). If you have very large suitcases or lots of luggage, you may want to consider XL.

We use Uber X for the 3 of us, which usually includes a stroller and two pieces of luggage. No problems getting it all on the car. We get Honda Accord size cars usually.

So how do I know which Uber to pick?

Uber Service Levels 101:

Cheapest to most expensive services:

Uber Pool: Average Joe driver in their personal car and you share a the car with another patron (don't do this)
Uber X: Average Joe driver like you and me picking you up in their personal car
Uber XL: Same as X, but larger vehicle for 4-5 adults (plus luggage can be tight depending on vehicle)
Uber Taxi: You get a regular taxi cab, just dispatched through the Uber app (not recommend)
Uber Select: Nicer car, more like a town car service but still a personal driver and privately owned car
Uber Black: Town Car or better service but and an actual professional licensed limo driver
Uber SUV: Same as Black with a Black Suburban or similar

There is also Uber Accessible for disabled

You can get a fare estimate on both the app and online for each level of service.

SNA-Disneyland:
  • uberX
    $15-21
  • uberXL
    $27-37
  • UberSELECT
    $43-56
  • UberBLACK
    $60-79
  • UberSUV
    $77-99

For comparison a Taxi is usually $45 plus tip

Thank you, alopez! I think we'll have 3, 4 suitcases, and not super big, thanks for the heads up on that!

Thank you very much for all that info, ParkHopper1! Great to have that and the link! Appreciate the explanations for sure, and the costs info!

Any time! Forgot to mention that sometimes the sign up bonus has a "use by" date. I think it's usually a month, so try to sign up close-ish to your travel date. We wasted a couple of DH's credits b/c we didn't know

We used Lyft to and from the parks last week. The current referral is $50 ($5 off ten rides). After your first ride, whomever referred you will receive a $10 credit valid towards one ride. As mentioned above, the credits do expire. It's not a month though...more like a week after you've signed up.

I don't understand the referral. I went to the Lyft website and it gave me a $50 referral code which was sent to my phone. I opened it and downloaded Lyft but I don't need to book until next tuesday. Will the referral code come up then? Did I accidentally invalidate it by opening the app (it went to my home address and was set to book a ride now)? I didn't read the fine print, but from the post above do I gather than I don't get the $50 to use all at once but in $5 increments?

Thanks for bearing with me with all of my questions! Not very experienced in this sort of thing.

No worries! It can be confusing b/c Lyft and Uber change their referral codes quite often AND they can be different from referrals from other people. For example, when I signed up, it was in Seattle, and I got a code from my friend. I got a $30 credit to use off of one ride. My friend got $10 after I rode. DH signed up in Orlando, and got a $50 credit, but code only use $10/ride. I got $10 from his ride. From a previous poster, it looks like the current referral in Anaheim is $5 at a time.

In the app, under Payments, you should be able to see your ride credits. If not, send Lyft a message - they're usually pretty quick about fixing issues like that!

Ooh, thanks for that heads up! I had thought about having DD's DF send it to her just to get it out of the way, glad I didn't do that, lol! That stinks you lost some credits! Ugh! I'll definitely keep an eye out for use by date!

Oh, yikes! Only a week? That's a pretty short time to use! We'll have to be careful with when we share these referral codes for sure!

Hmm, I wonder if it matters where you were when you got the referral or what. We live near Chicago, about 60 miles. Wonder if DF sends her referral while both are here, or if it'd be different if he sends from here to her when she gets to SNA airport to use then. Woukd she get the same deal either place or it'd be based on where she was when she opened it and signed up? And would I get the same deal whether she opened at home and sent to me then, or if she signed up in Anaheim and then sent referral to me? Also wonder how different the left and uber referrals are from each other. They are two separately run companies I would assume.

I gotta check out that to see about how far/how much an average trip from SNA to Tropicana. I think we'll also take a trip to Newport Beach to do a whale tour there, and a trip to the In and Out Burger near DL, at least four or five trips using Lyft or Uber.
Thanks again for sharing all the info!
