Uber Drop-Off Issues

Last year we stayed off-site (Vistana) and took Ubers to the parks. It is a short ride, but the drop-offs were problematic. We missed a Fast Pass at MK because the driver didn't know where to go (and he worked at MK). We now know we need to enter the address for the TTC. Epcot didn't seem to be an issue, and we will be entering the address for the Boardwalk Resort to use the International Gateway.

Regarding Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, any advice? Trying to figure out the easiest, most direct way of getting the driver to the correct spot. Last year, entering the address of the parks led to a lot of aimlessly driving around the perimeter of the parks.

For MK, use the Contemporary Resort as your drop off location. The drop off at MK is at the TTC so you still have to take the monorail or ferry over. CR is a quick 5-minute walk to the park.

Thank you. Didn't think of that.

When I request an Uber to go to the parks, I just put in the name of the park as my request - not an address. We always use Uber’s to get around and never have an issue...

For MK, I also use the contemporary for pick up and drop off - and just enter the ‘contemporary resort’ as the request - not the address.

It's always better to enter the location name than an address. At WDW, the street address is not where the drop off location is. If you just enter the location name, it will direct the driver to the correct location

Since they can't drop you off at MK, it will automatically move your drop off to the TTC. The contemporary is faster and easier

I refuse to believe anyone who works at the MK doesn’t know where drop off is. Or at least that drop off is at TTC. They had to be pulling your leg

we use ride share a lot. We also simply enter the park name. No addresses. We always get there no issues

This summer the rideshare areas at Animal Kingdom and DHS were well marked.

Since you missed FastPasses I’d allow extra time this year. You must have not allowed enough time last year for the “what if’s” of long security lines, traffic, long entry lines etc

Because something has never happened to you, you refuse to believe it? That's just ignorant. He worked at MK, he was adamant. We conversed in English, later in French. Perhaps he was new to Uber. Perhaps he had only ever driven to the employee lot. Perhaps a lot of things.

We left plenty of time. He missed the turn-off 3 different times. Ultimately, they restored our FP and we got another FP to use for any ride, which got us on 7DMT. It was the same day some idiot drove on a motorized scooter broke the door on the monorail, causing mayhem.

99% of the time you get a great driver... This past July we ordered an Uber to go to AK from OKW. Buses were taking way too long. We had put that we were were going to Animal Kingdom and the driver took us to a random hotel off of International Dr. claiming that was Animal Kingdom. It was the most ridiculous and frustrating ride. I kept telling him we are going to Animal Kingdom and he acknowledged what I was saying but still took us to a random hotel. Complete waste of time/money. We ended up taking another Uber after he dropped us off at the random hotel and got to AK a bit after.

Agreed. Most of the time I use Uber, I have no issues. Sometimes, the drivers just don't get it.

If the original ride was Uber, you should complain to Uber about being taken to the wrong destination, and having to take another Uber to get where you wanted to go. They will probably refund both rides.

Believe it or not, not everyone who works for Disney does it because they love Disney. Some work there to put food on the table, pay rent etc. They don't necessary visit the parks even though they get free passes (I assume they still do). They park in the cast member parking lot(s), get themselves to the place they work and then do the reverse at the end of work day. Why would the care where the uber drop off place is, until they became an Uber driver.

I phrased it wrong. I meant to say they know that the TTC is the only parking lot for MK. I don't care if they ever step foot in the park as a guest, they know that

Still doesn't mean they know where the drop off location is at. I have found some Uber drivers are slaves to their mapping app. Re-reading the original post, it sounded like the poster didn't enter the address to the TTC when requesting the ride. They now know this.

That's especially true of new drivers. Most of the time it's not a big issue, but it certainly could be for a big venue with designated drop-off spots. There's a point where you need to get your nose out of your phone and start looking for signs.

Bad GPS dropoff (and pickup) points are much more likely with Lyft than Uber. It never used to be that way, but a few months ago Lyft sort of merged Google Maps into their navigation system...and it's a mess. Google Maps with Uber -- no problem. Lyft...fuggedaboutit!

Locations can be off by several hundred yards for both pickup and dropoff -- and the fun part is Lyft will not let you either start or end the ride unless you are right on the pin. I've had situations where the pin was in the middle of a huge condo or office building and there was no way to get to the required spot without crashing through the front doors of the building. I've had a couple of rides where I couldn't get out of the ride any other way than just turning Lyft off completely.

I believe they just entered Magic Kingdom and the app automatically directed them to the proper dropoff for MK -- which is TTC.
