Hi all! I have yet again another granite question. I'm trying to decide between Uba Tuba and Amerillo Boreal. I was told that Uba Tuba never looks clean. That it shows every fingerprint, sponge wipe, etc. Do you seal yours? If you have any one of these types please let me know what you think. Thanks, Jennifer

It depends on the finish. We have Ubatuba in our kitchen and on our fireplace. It is very shiny all the time and never shows any fingerprints. We spray it with a cleaner every 6 months.

We've used uba tuba twice (two different homes) and love it. We chose it because we liked the coloring, but also because it would not show stains. Although we liked some of the lighter shades of granite, we did not want to be worried if someone spilled red wine or a juice box and did not clean it up quickly. We have not noticed any trouble with fingerprints, etc. We do seal it once a year. Good luck in the decision process - it can be a bit overwhelming!

I didn't select uba tuba, but will tell you the most important thing to do to it is seal it.. religiously.... and you will not have any problems.

Our granite store sold us a bottle of sealer that we used immediately after installation (2 coats) with plenty left over for a few more years.

It's recommended you use a sealer at least once a year and still be careful with oil and acidic foods.

I don't have it handy, but if you have a tile importer in your area, I'm sure they sell it. A quart will cost around $50.

It was the best investment I could make after spending a small fortune on the countertop.

I've never had a problem with our Ubatuba-- we have it for our counters and our breakfast bar. I love it! We clean it every so often with Method's "Daily Granite" cleaner and seal it once a year with the spray we picked up at Home Depot. We're still on the original bottle of sealing spray from 2005.

Thanks guys! Once again you've come through for me.:goodvibes
EeyoreJMH-Where do you purchase this Method's Granite spray? Thanks all!

I usually pick it up at Target, but have also seen it at Home Depot and Lowes. The best price I've found is at Target. Good luck with your decision and feel free to send me a note with any granite questions. We had a hard time choosing, too :)

I have Uba Tuba in my kitchen and I love it. I never notice fingerprints. I clean it with Windex (no ammonia) daily, and use a special spay with sealer in every few days or so. Then we seal it every two years.

I have Absolute Black in one of my bathrooms and it shows everything. I mean, e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g! :sad2:

My husband the do it yourselfer brought home uba tuba black granite tiles. He is planning on laying them over the kitchen counter. At this time we have a vanilla laminate which is ugly so anything should be an improvement. He picked up the tiles from craigslist for only $275.00 so if it doesn't come out well it won't break the bank. I'll post pictures when he is done.
