Hi,

I had put down a deposit for $500.00 for our week stay at a DVC. A few weeks ago I paid the remainder for my week stay. I have now yet to hear anything and feel that I am getting the run-a-round regarding adding the dining plan to my stay.

Shouldn't the room be in my name now? And isn't it just a quick phone call with cc # to purchase the DDP?

I am really wishing I just booked a room directly now.:surfweb:

Unfortunately, that is not the case. When you rent points from a DVC member, that member actually owns the reservation through Member Services. DVC Member Services will not talk to anyone but the actual owner. So the owner has to add the dining plan for you. This has become more complicated since Disney has now required payment for the plan when you call to add it. So you have to arrange how that money transfer is going to happen between you and the member that you rented from. Hope that makes sense.

Chances are the room was in your name from when the member first called. I'm surprised the member didn't send you your confirmation at that time. But perhaps they chose not to put it in your name until you paid the balance, different people do different things.

As for the DDP, your owner may not want to deal with adding it. If I was renting points, I haven't decided whether I want to deal with the additional effort it is now, regarding paying in advance and the credit card, or getting a gift card from the renter, etc. Maybe the owner is trying to figure out if they want to deal with it as well. That part was much simpler when the renter could just pay for it at check-in.

So unless the member is being non-responsive - as in you can't reach them or they won't answer at all, I wouldn't be worried about it at this point. Did you tell them previously you wanted the DDP and they said they would add it?

I was not aware of the dining plan being paid for in advance. Thanks for the information.

I would have thought you would have heard from the individual that you rented from by now. When I rented points, the reservation wad immediately put in my name when the deposit was made. The dis-boards are closely monitored, so I wouldn't worry yet.

I am sorry about your anexity, and I am sure it will all work out. For future reference and an FYI, I would have demanded the confirmation number and confirmed through the website the reservation had been made, in additon to a 3 way call being made..........BEFORE I paid the balance.

Dont worry though, you should be fine

Like Charles said, that is a total waste of time. It could be faked. The owner could call back and cancel it.

And I'd bet the owner just doesn't want to deal with the issue of the dining plan or is trying to work out a way to get compensated for adding it to the reservation.

It would have given him peace of mind, which is what he DOESNT have now

When it comes to renting- and I have rented points 4 times- most of the trust relies heavily on the rentee (the person renting the points)

effective communication, email with confirmation number, 3 way calls, all add to that trust value JIMO

On each its own merit they mean very little, as ANYTHING CAN be cancelled, but when added together it does provide sound piece of mind and emotional assurance, which is what every renter desires

But whatever, it can be faked and this and that and be negative, but now this person feels like crap- hence the whole "I wish I would have" statement

ALl I was saying was the more confirmation and feedback i.e. an email with confirmation number, 3 way calling, etc etc is just assurances

BUT YES they can be faked

This is why I dislike commenting on these boards

Maybe I should have just said, " Yeah sounds like you got ripped off"

Would that have made you guys happier?

Unfortunately, some people have been on the back end of "oh, I'm sure it will be alright." "Oh, it isn't all right." Moreover, some folks have been on the back end of demanding renters who want three way calls for insurance. And while some people are happy to do so, other people really aren't interested in the bother.

If a person intends to rip you off - which is VERY RARE - there is really very little that can be done to stop it. 3 way calls and copies of confirmations are nice, but until you check into the room, the reservation is held by the owner - and they can cancel it. Fortunately - this is very rare.

Its more likely that the owner in question is very busy with their own life and just hasn't gotten to returning phone calls. Prepaying the dining plan adds a new kink for owners. Time can fly and you can put off for a long time something like making a dental appointment, or calling back your renter.

What's the deal? :confused3 This is completely non productive. The responses you received to your previous posts were spot on. They weren't negative responses, just clarifying responses. Everyone here on the DIS has said something at one time or another that is later clarified with follow up posts. Don't take it personally and absorb the information because people here are just trying to help.

With all of the additional owners now renting their points, you are going to get some that don't know what they are doing and some that don't keep in touch.

I hope that the owner contacts you soon.

Of course not. But just as it's not always 'OMG, you're doomed', it's not always sunshine and bunnies, either.

It's true that the great majority of rentals go very smoothly, and that most renters are good people who would never rip anyone off, there have been some bad experiences, too, and outright theft.

It wasn't clear from the OP's first post that they knew the owner retained control of the reservation. And it's while it's quite true that a 3-way phone call could make the renter feel better about the situation, it's very important that they understand that the owner can still cancel the reservation. It's happened.

It's a business transaction, involving a lot of money. We all want to reassure the OP, and it's very likely that it's just a communication issue, but if it were me, I'd also want to know what can go wrong, so I can protect myself. That's all the folks here are doing.
