Typical Cast Member Reaction After Safety Incident?

So you fell, two CMs offered you assistance and you refused it, making it clear that it wasn't a big deal. Then you went out of your way to report what happened, were, yet again, offered assistance. You, yet again, refused assistance and said it wasn't that big of a deal. Now you're upset that they treated it like it wasn't a big deal? What did you expect them to do?
Exactly what I was thinking reading this.

+1,000

I'm not seeing any fault with Disney here.

As to the gate, usually it's pretty obvious where they are and I was there 6ish weeks ago, I know where you are talking about.

It's simply "self preservation" to not go throwing yourself against gates and expect them to have a latch lol

I joke with friends this country would be a better place if we removed the "obvious" things, starting with railings around the grand canyon.

Let Darwin sort things out lol

they certainly could have ran to a bathroom to get her some paper towels.
they did so for me when i fell and cut my chin last month and it was bleeding badly.

It depends on who she asked. If it was a CM stationed at a ride, they could not just run off. You fell at DTD, so the CMs have a little bit of a different job there.

I've been wondering...

I've never fallen on my *** and then worried about back problems in the coming days. Is this an older person thing? (I'll let you define older)

I mean, I forgot to change out of my slippers this winter, stepped out, slipped on ice with my hands full, did an entire can can dance trying to regain my balance, and still busted my ***. After making sure everything still worked I was just mad my pants were wet. It just seems like a weird afterthought to me.

I don't know about the specific gate where your fall incured but I will say when my mom fell on the moving walkway on The Seas with Nemo and Friends ride at Epcot the CMs were less than helpful. She was in her wheelchair but they said she'd have to transfer to ride and she felt like she could do it. She asked if they could slow or stop the moving walkway and they said no and that we were holding up the line trying to decide if she could do it or not, so we decided to try. I walked in front of her holding her hand and my dad walked behind her but she tripped and fell and neither of us could catch her. Of course we got her up and situated but the CM there never offered to help her up or ask if she was okay. They didn't offer her medical attention or anything, all they said was "watch your step". It's not like she tripped a little she fell and landed on her side. My dad and I helped her up and got out of there to make sure she was okay (thankfully she was) so she didn't need medical attention but it should have at least been offered.

I think in general CMs act very detached when accidents happen, but maybe that's the way they are trained and to make sure they cover themselves in case of legal action.

My Mom was so upset about her fall though that she refuses to ride anything with a moving walkway now when we visit. I wish they could slow or stop those walkways for the people who need that assistance.

I'm sorry about your accident and I do hope the situation with the gate is fixed, but honestly I'm not surprised Disney didn't file an accident report or anything of that nature.
That reminds me of when my mom went on the memo ride and walked right into a railing/gate that was not open. She has cataracts and has trouble seeing in low light. She thought about reporting the incident to a CM just to have them put some reflective tape on it or something.

i slipped on the stairs at POP because they were wet and i was wearing flip flops (i will never wear flip flops on wet painted cement stairs again) and fell on my butt.
that was in 2007.
it hurt for quite some time and i had a huge bruise.
my lower back has hurt on and off ever since.
it was only in 2013 when i had a CT scan for and unrelated issue that it was noticed that i have a bulging disc in my lower back just above where my butt hit the stairs.

Stay hydrated...they might have thought you got dizzy in the heat and fell over was my first thought. WS is very sunny.

I see, it's sad they can't help people because some might try to turn that into something ugly, they certainly need to protect themselves so I understand why they can't physicslly assist guest.
because they could hurt themselves or the guest. If the person in the pp had fallen while a cm was assisting her, she could have injured the cm. If the cm tried to help her, the cm could have moved her wrong and injured the guest.

In this particular situation, the Guest Relations CM should have called his/her manager and I am surprised that they did not do that, CMs are trained to report incidents and assist in a limited capacity as a front-line first-responder but they are NOT necessarily trained to handle the situation beyond that point, the later part is typically handled by a manager, security personnel, and emergency responders which would fill out incident reports and contact necessary parties. During my time as WDW CM we were trained to do following when encountering incidents:

1. Call 911 (If Life Threatening Emergency) OR Call WDW Security Emergency Line (If Non-Life Threatening)
2. Call Manager on Duty
3. Secure the Area and Wait for Assistance or instruction from Manager

Other than these three, CMs are not really trained to do anything beyond that, of course if 911 is called and the dispatcher gives instruction to pull an AED or First Aid Kit then the CM would obviously be expected to do so per that official instruction until help arrives. If the CM is in an outdoor area without immediate access to a phone then there are typically emergency radio codes that the CM can request via their radio or communication device to summon assistance. Hopefully this helps clear up some confusion.

Okay?

I didn't ask if people get hurt falling on their ***. I just wondered if someone falling on their *** typically leads to an immediate worry of future back issues. That's what I think is weird.

well i guess i'm saying that yes it can lead to an immediate worry about future back problems.
i know if i fall on my butt again i'm gonna be concerned that my back will start hurting.

Ok.

I find that odd. No big deal.

It is totally weird that people would worry about injuring their backs, what with total U.S. productivity lost to back pain exceeding 100 million work days per year and back pain being the leading cause of lost productivity worldwide. Or maybe the weird thing is that this message board is not populated entirely by people who are as young and supple as you and me. If you can't bounce right back up like a toddler after falling down, why are you even walking around? It makes me sad.

Lol I guess. The fact that people DO injur their backs doesn't mean that whenever someone misses the seat they'll fret about it.

My first post clearly wondered if was maybe an older thing. Maybe I'm just molded differently. My 65 year old mother just fell walking in a parking lot for whatever reason, got up, and moved on with her day.

Maybe we are the weird ones for not making a big deal out of nothing.

just because your mother didn't get injured when she fell does not mean that everyone else that falls "should just get up and move on with their day" because falling is "nothing".

I don't think it's an every person that falls instantly thinks of future back pain. People fall in their homes often, yet you don't see people fretting about it as much as they do if they fall at a store or a theme park. . .

I think her basic point is it's not a big deal - you're ok brush off your knees and keep going.

It's been my experience with older people that these three things cause the most concern, the back, the knees and the bowels. Especially the bowels. Whoa Nelly, they really get obsessed with those. I have had patients who get all nervous that they haven't pooped multiple times in a day.

Maybe the back concerns happen more after fifty, I don't know...

TRUTH!

The point is just going over your head.

Every fall isn't nothing. But every fall isn't something either.

Pick yourself up and move on with your day. The OP fell two feet and bumped her butt on the ground. She didn't trip, bleed profusely, and need stitches. Her knees weren't scraped up. She didn't bang her head.

Good lord. My 7 year old seems tougher than some of the posts in here.
