Typhoon Lagoon

On our recent trip to Walt Disney World we visited Typhoon Lagoon for the first time with our hopper pass. We would have preferred Blizzard Beach but due to refurbishment, it happened to be the waterpark that was closed at the time we were there. I was kind of disappointed in the park for several reasons: the lazy river was very crowded and you were constantly running into somebody's foot and families were easily separated. However my main concern or wish is that Disney appt an employee to coordinate people at the entrances to the lazy river. People were jammed on the stairway down into the water waiting for individuals to give up their tube. There was no real organization for people getting in or out of the water and a staff member there would be a definitely asset. I felt sorry for the smaller kids that were waiting for a tube and an adult would grab one first because they had longer arms. As well, I found the slides somewhat short, especially the raft ride and was quite disappointed after waiting in line for some time. Looking forward to visiting Blizzard Beach.

I think you will find the same problems at BB. It's not WDW problem but everyone needs to learn how to take turns. Lots of people leave their manners at home when they go to WDW.

I just found out that BB is down when we'll be there in Dec.

Pretty bummed I thought the ski school was the perfect size for my DD's who have outgrown kettakidde creek at TL.

The thing that I was really disappointed in was the amount of kids with no tubes running and splashing about. Every other year the lifeguards were very strict on the fact that if you weren't on a tube you needed to get out but last year this was not the case.

BB has the best family raft ride and you are right when you say that TL"s is way to long a line for such a short ride.

hockeymom-

I completely agree! We did that ride once and our tube must have been not completely inflated. My husband and I got the fit of giggles because we were dragging our, um, behinds and barely moved while the kids wanted us to go faster. Funny moment.

We went to TL on Thanksgiving day 03 and there were no lines to wait in. We had a wonderful time and I would suggest to anyone going this year to spend Thanksgiving day at TL. We then had our Thanksgiving supper with a big group of friends at FW. What a Thanksgiving to remember.

Disney is a magical place!!!!:earsgirl: :earsboy:

On my recent visit when TL was near capacity, I was amazed at the number of people who stood on the steps at the lazy river waiting for a tube to be handed to them. Many empty ones floated by on the other side of the river, but people would not go into the river to get them!

My tip for a pleasant day at TL is to use the lazy river later in the day. By about 1:00, there were many fewer people in the river and it was much better for families trying to stay together.

By 4:00, you will feel like you have the river to yourself!

Thanks for the advice! We are going for the first time in Jan. and my boys can't wait!

I have the answer for you ... some of the more popular entrances to Castaway Creek are extremely busy. Just follow the path back one or two entrances, and you will find hardly anyone there!!! We are usually over by the bar area (can't remember what it is called), and will walk over the bridge to the entrance by the Shark area and get right on.

I have never understood why people don't figure this out.

Another thing is you have a number of people who just stand there like someone is going to politely get a tube for them while they just stand in one spot ... hello, like many other public places, you need to be a bit assertive (no, I DIDN'T say "aggressive") to maintain your "spot" in line. You will never get a tube standing at the top of the stairs!! Your VIP status does not work at the water park.

We have never been to TL and were hoping to try it on our trip to WDW this February. We went to BB on our last trip and loved it!

My question is -- will TL be open in February? I read something about a huge expansion there and thought it would be closed until Spring.

Thanks for your help!

Awww, I always get defensive when people choose BB over TL. :p

I know we all have our opinions, but I just love that place! I love the tropical theming, and the music, and the wave pool. BB seems so stark and WHITE (that snow is blinding when the sun is blazing)! And maybe I'm lazy, but a few trips up those stairs at BB and I'm pooped!
The last time we were at TL, there were no crowds (we got there at opening. We were able to do everything and head out by 1 when the crowds were showing up). We had so much fun, we were very sad last year when we went during TL refurbishment. Can't wait for May so I can visit again!

I love both water parks but it depends what we are in the mood for as to which park we visit. If we feel like like a little more of a relaxing time or just want to play in the pool and have waves crash into us, TL it is. If we want more of the thrill rides (and a little more crowd), BB is the place! I feel each has its ups and downs but both are SO much fun! I do agree, however, that the family raft ride at TL is WAY too short, the one at BB is the best family ride I have been on!

that you had to be on a tube to be in the creek... When did that happen? I have never seen anything to that effect and we have been going every year to both (when open). My DS never uses a tube. He just swims between us or just around. No lifeguard has ever said a thing...

So, what's up????

I'm going to ask the lifeguards next time at both...
