Do you really swim with sharks or is there a glass barrier? Is this part of your admission to the park or do you have to pay extra?

First timer here and I think it would be a cool experience, but just a little nervous about the sharks.

Yes, you really swim with the sharks...no glass barrier.
I believe it does cost extra.

I did not swim with the sharks. I just watched from above.

The snorkeling is Free included in your admission (the water is very cold)

Then there is a pay to go deep scuba that was avail.(must be certified.)

Either way you are in the water with the sharks and many other fish.

Swimming with the sharks is included in admission. No need to worry about the sharks: they are small. My brother and sister did this when they were quite young (10 and 14) and both of them loved it.

We loved swimming with the sharks. At least as long as DW wasn't trying to shove me towards them... After the quick shock of cold water it was a great experience.

The water is cool, but not too cold. It is really neat to see the fish and sharks (they are small and swim near the bottom of the tank. If you aren't a good swimmer, there are life vests available and plenty of lifeguards out of the water and in the water. It's a great attraction and one of the best at Typhoon Lagoon! You'll probably want to go more than once! Have a blast!

It was a LOT of fun last year! The fish swim very close to you, but not the sharks.

The line to swim with sharks can get pretty long in the afternoons. I recommend you get to park first thing when it opens and swim with the sharks first. If you are staying onsite the water parks open 1 hour early for resort guests. We spent nearly 2 hours in TL & BB with hardly anyone else! No lines, rode the big slides first, then spent the more crowded afternoon in Lazy River.

Wow! DH would love to swim with sharks. We are hoping to make it to one of the water parks this time so I guess when DH finds out about the sharks...........TL it will be!!!!

Sharks are very small (a few feet), are not dangerous and stay at the bottom of the "reef". Humans must stay on top of water, no diving down, so you really don't get close to them. Some creatures will swim alittle higher to give you a thrill, but it's not scary.

Water is cold and can take your breath away. I've seen plenty decide not to do it because of temp. You must always move forward, but can zig zag. NO kicking your feet, just barely move them to keep moving. Rock in middle you may squat on for a second to catch your breath. Stay relaxed, I've seen lots of folks panic in there. Once, every lifeguard had jumped in to assist someone.

GO FIRST THING IN MORNING, one because it gets crowded (and we do it several times) and because as the day goes on the sediment gets stirred up and it's not as cool as early. Take the water cameras, have gotten some great shots in there.

Not sure of age/height requir.

But yes they have adult vest that I think you must wear .If not it helps keep you up at such a nice slow pace so I would wear one anyhow.The many times I've gone I never thought of not wearing it it just makes it easier to float across from one side to the other.

You get vest, mask and snorkel. I don't think you need to be a great swimmer, but you have to be able to float and move yourself (even with your hands it works)....you also can't panic in water over your head. The water is deep, you can't stand other than the "squat rock". My DM isn't a swimmer but does okay...but if she knows water is over her head (and that is without fish) she will panic. You can watch via a porthole on the "sunken ship" to see if you think you want to do it first. I suggest that.

Official books says kids must be a minimum of 10 years old, but I know plenty who have taken younger ones in.
My DD did it when she was about 8 or 9 for the first time. She is fearless in water

Swimming with the sharks is great. We even had our 7 year old on it. When he first started out a shark swam directly under him . Well his head popped out of the water and looked at me. His eyes were almost as big as the goggles. We got him to the squat rock and calmed him down. I told him that they are Disney sharks and that Mickey would never let anything happen to him. After he got calmed down he went back in and loved it. We did it three or four more times that trip and about six times our next trip.

Yes the water is a little cool when you first get in, but you adapt fairly quickly, and you see so much that you forget about the cold.

Give it a try and you won't regret it.

so my 8 year old should be able to try it then? I hope so he is a awsome swimmer, been going for lessons since he was 3 lol, wanted to make sure he would swim better, and like the water better, then his too scared mommmy!
