Typhoon Lagoon Return...

Def not a good sign that’s for sure.

Are those large cylinders/containers part of the construction or just the back end of the wave pool? Trying to figure out exactly what that blog was referring to as a months long project. But in general, the blog’s assessment makes sense - having TL ready by the next refurbishment of BB might be more inline with Disney’s goals.

I'm assuming the tanks are permanent and the project is referring to the scaffolding and whatever is beneath the large tarps.

It is sad to see it not opening but I also don't think they have a strong need to open it either, up till now BB just hasn't been that busy. Partly because no new AP sales for water park passes and Plat Plus passes and day tickets are kinda high for just BB.

Really now there are only 2 more months of prime water park time for Florida. Sept and Oct get dicey with peak hurrican season and then the cooler weather sets in and less go to water parks nov-feb/march.

Jan and Feb are the only 2 months that arent peak water park weather in Florida and in those 2 months you can still often get a good 3 to 4 hours of a day in.

Water park crowds drop a lot though from nov-mid march, hence why they can drop down to 1 water park. They aren't going to operate 2 water parks during the normal time for 1 to be down and BB won't need to go down for refurb till Jan at earliest and it may make it through till nov 2022. So I really don't see Typhoon Lagoon opening till Jan or March based on when BB refurb is at this point.

Gotta say, Disney: not opening TL for summer is GARBAGE!!! Quit being so stupid cheap. You do realize your resort is in Florida, right? Where the hottest American-summer lasts for 9 months. I bought water park passes for our trip thinking we could hop from one water park to the other during the week. Nope. You have just BB open. Which is good park. But after hitting Volcano Bay at Universal last year, I've realized BB is very simple water park. Disney really needs two water parks to compete. It's summer. It's Florida, where it's perpetually the realm of Hercules' super-villain. Open Typhoon Lagoon.

If TL needs major refurbishment due to being down, then there's really nothing they can do.

Man the lazy river is even algae green. It looks more abandoned than temporarily closed.

It may need repairs and also assumed CMs on FB groups are saying Disney just isn't staffed up to support it yet either. My personal take is its just too much to get it open right now with too little profit for Disney.

Staffing is the biggest reason right now for sure.

Hope TL doesn’t become River Country all over again. They shut it down to cut costs after 9/11 and never reopened it because it was too costly to do it. I know there were other factors, but you gotta wonder.

I don’t think (I mean, hope) that the construction permits filed for the work being done there now are because it’s going the RC route. But I’m sure people said similar things about River Country before it’s ultimate demise 😬

RC also had other issues that TL doesn't have and was so out of date. TL still draws many people and gets very crowded on hot days.

Has anyone staying in Disney recently noticed this?….

I just watched the new “Welcome to Disney” resort video that replaces the famous Stacey anchored “Must Do Disney” - and if you watch closely, no mention of Typhoon Lagoon or that there are two waterparks at all. And they specifically say “our waterpark” as singular and then go on to discuss Blizzard Beach with no mention of TL.

Obviously they could have easily just recorded two versions and will most likely just play a secondary version when TL returns. But I found it interesting nonetheless. I would bet it was known internally a while ago that TL was never opening this summer. We’ve all recited many valid reasons for why it won’t in this thread though so I won’t beat at a dead horse in that regard.

I LOVE TL. BB is only meh. We go on our Disney trips in the winter. (January now for some time, although we skipped this past January.) I finally took my husband to TL on our last trip (I'd been going to TL since it opened when I was a kid, but it was often closed for refurb when I started taking my husband.)
I couldn't get him to leave! He said it was his absolute FAVORITE thing at all of Disney World. I am praying so hard that it's open for our trip this coming January!

Edit: I didn’t watch the video IN Disney, not there yet. I saw it on an article of the “they who shall not be named” website.

I think I saw this video on the WDWNewsToday YouTube channel. Is that the video you are talking about? Yeah, I immediately noticed the removal of Typhoon Lagoon and thought it indicated we might be looking at the permanent closure of Typhoon Lagoon.

I really don't see them permanently closing Typhoon Lagoon, but I don't see it opening till March 2022.

I am sure it is pretty expensive for them to maintain and staff. I think you are right, but who knows these days!
