:sad2: Disney have just told me on the phone that this will no longer be available even when typoon lagoon reopens

Well, the surf lessons were being taught by the same people that run Ron Jon's. Ron Jon's Surfpark in Orlando is (fingers crossed) finally going to open early this year. It has been under design and construction for several years and was supposed to have opened back in 2007. I can't imagine that they are going to send staff over to WDW when they are going to want the surf lesson business entirely for themselves.

Thanks for that. I wanted to book this for my 16 yr olds Xmas so I will try that link

Ron Jon's Surfpark is not to be according to Orlando Sentinel article earlier this week.:confused3

Planned Ron Jon surf park not happening

We’ve had readers ask us what’s happening with the long-planned, never progressing Ron Jon Surf Park at the Festival Bay Mall. By this summer, they were supposed to have a huge surf area with a full-size wave pool, two smaller ones and a lazy river that brings you back to the start after you’ve surfed to “shore”. The picture above is from a model of the park that used to sit outside of the Ron Jon store, which remains open in the mall.
Well an Orlando Sentinel story today answers our reader’s questions about the park:

From orlandosentinel.com:

Festival Bay Mall has given up on the original deal for the Ron Jon Surfpark, a partially built International Drive attraction slowed by repeated delays in the four years since it was announced. Also, Cocoa-based Ron Jon Surf Shop has pulled its name from the project, and the attraction’s developers say they need more cash before they can continue.

“We had some flaws in the technology and invested quite a bit of money in fixing that,” said Jamie Meiselman, founder and chief executive officer of the company behind the project, which calls itself Surfparks LLC. “The good news is we were able to solve the problems; the bad news is it came at a cost.”

I just called Disney today. They said that they were just told today that surf lessons will be offered again when typhoon lagoon reopens in late March! They will be $150 per person and can be booked 90 days in advance. :rotfl:

Cool! Well, there goes that rumor lol.

just booked surfing lessons at typhoon lagoon for our trip in april. called yesterday, 1/26.

:cheer2:

it was $150 and they put a hold on your credit card which means if you don't cancel, they will charge it for a no show.

Wow, this thread read like a roller coater - glad it will be open for my next trip - did this and loved it! was sad it not open last yr when we went.

Yay! I've always wanted to do this and would be very bummed if Disney was getting rid of it.
