Typhoon Lagoon, how many hours needed?

I am planning to visit this water park on a MNSSHP day. We are staying at POR which I think is close to this water park. I was hoping to start heading out by 10 or 10:30am to the water park. Never been to a water park before. How many hours do you think I will need? Will 4 hours be ok?

I am hoping to get back to the hotel to rest and change for MNSSHP. Hoping to be at the gates by 4pm.

Any tips to make this smoothly happen? Is there an issue with buses to the water parks or party?

From POR to Typhoon Lagoon, how many minutes does it take by bus?

We like to get there right when it opens to get a good central spot. It's also not as hot the earlier you go. We are usually ready to head back to the room after lunch, so usually 10-1 or 2 for us.

I would give yourself at least 45-50 minutes each way to get to/from resort (that includes wait times for bus, travel time and getting through the turnstile at Typhoon Lagoon). I personally would choose to do Typhoon Lagoon on a non MNSSHP day if you can do it.

Just my .02. Is there an option to go to TL on a day other than when going to MNSSHP? We love the water park yet find we're pooped after a day of being in the sun so much, playing in the waves and walking up stairs to slides over and over again.

We love the water parks so it's easy for us to spend 6 or more hours there. We often open and close it when hours are 9-5 or so.

If doing both the same day is best for your family a word of caution to keep well hydrated. It's easy to forget how much water to drink while splashing around for hours.

Have a great time! TL and MNSSHP are both tons of fun!

We went on a weekday in July, so our experience is likely a little different crowd-wise. We walked in at park opening, and really felt like we had the place to ourselves for about an hour. In that time, we were able to pick off 2 tube slides and all 3 body slides without any waiting. It didn't start to feel crowded until after lunch. We were able to do everything in the park (minus the Crush N Gusher slides - height problems for my munchkins) before stopping for lunch about 12:30. We did some repeats from 1-2 and then headed out.

Given the time of year you're visiting, I would imagine that an arrival at the park closer to opening time would have you on your way either just before or just after lunch, giving you 2-3 hours to relax before heading over for MNSSHP. 4 hours should be plenty of time for Typhoon in your situation.

We (myself, DH, DD18, DS12) are staying at Pop, checking in on 6/12 for 8 days. One of the days the boys are going "waterparking" and myself and DD are heading to the resorts to shop/get pedicures, etc...
My question is...are the water parks busy on Star Wars weekends? We were planning for that day to be Sunday but can switch it with Wednesday. Is one of those days better than the other for water park busy-ness?

I would think Wednesday during the summer would be less crowded than the Sunday, but Sunday should be doable. The thought being that Weeklong travelers are still hitting the parks on Wednesday and might not be ready for the water park yet. I know that during the summer we often do the water park on arrival day (we leave very early, when possible) and this is a great way for us to start the trip play and stretch from the car ride, can find a chair and relax before we get started.

Thanks for your input! I never thought about how tired we would be. Our MNSSHP is on Friday the 23rd. We could switch it to Sunday 24th (the only other day we could do the water park) but sadly Typhoon Lagoon will be closed. I think Blizzard Beach is open but I really wanted to try the tropical themed water park.

I will think on all this info. Oh and thank you for that water tip! :smickey: I will be sure everyone is hydrated.

Get there at open. Hang until we wake up on the lazy river. That is usually 9 or 10 till 3. We usually do a dinner show after so we don't burn a park day.

I'm hoping I'm wrong because I'm going around the same time and would like to check it out TL but according to the calender at www.wdwprepschool.com TL is closed for the season starting October 3rd.

Blizzard Beach still appears to be open. Can anyone confirm this?

So does everyone feel like it too tiring to do a water park and then a park?
I have never been to water park. I wanted to do 3 to 4 hours.
However, this is my also first time at MNSSHP.

Not to mention that I am also waking up early the next morning to be at gates open for WWoHP.

I may be squeezing in much but I really want the full experience.

We have been to the waterparks several times - sometimes with all 3 kids (when they were younger) and then more recently withextended family. I love the water parks. We try to go on our 4th or so day of the trip so we can sleep in a bit and also have a shorter day. In 2013, we went to TL on the last day it was open so it is in the same time frame as you. I would get there right at rope drop and we usually stay 10-3 or so. But, like I said, we love the wave pool and the lazy river. We are tired after a day though but we often would go someplace for dinner or to Downtown Disney. I doubt that I would last until midnight at MNSSHP without a nap and I am one who does burn the candle at both ends. If you can switch your days, I would recommend it, but if not, I would try to go to the water park 10-2pm.

Well I guess I could go to Blizzard Beach. Have you been to that park? Do you like it in comparison?

I had no problems doing both. Last year was my first experience with a water park as well. I got to Typhoon Lagoon right at opening and after doing everything I wanted to do (which was everything except the kiddie area and the really big water slide), left about 12:30. I headed back to my room at Boardwalk, showered, ate lunch, and was on a bus for a park by 2pm. I spent the rest of the day at MK until close.

Edit: I should also mention that I was solo on that trip...no kids or anyone to keep track of.

You must be young :rotfl: We plan on going at opening and leave around 1:30, eat, rest and go to MK for the evening. Hope we can handle it.
I know a long time ago we went to Blizzard Beach and got on the plane to go home that evening, before we even took off I was falling asleep.

We do it a little differently than most. We tend to go in the afternoon when the themeparks are at the busiest, and the morning waterpark people are leaving. We visit a waterpark nearly everyday, use it for our afternoon break, then feel refreshed and ready to head back to the parks. Lots of slides and lazy river time, probably 2+ hours, depending on the day.

LOL...42, so not really. :) No kids though, unless you count the hubby, so that allows me to keep some of my energy for myself.
